Most approvers do not consider whether a post is thoroughly tagged. You should still do it, but it won’t really increase your chances of getting them approved.
If that's really the case, it feels a little sad? Not in the sense of "Why don't more tags get me more approvals?" but rather, for an art collecting community built around tags, I'd hope more folks were conscientious about proper tagging.
Moving on, I ended up in this thread sooner than I expected. I'm slowly building a mental model of what fits in danbooru, and post #8679427 has me stumped. It has just been marked as deleted after 9 approver reviews (is that a lot?), even though it feels like it belongs: none of franzilla's other uploaded works were deleted, image quality seems good enough, art quality looks on par with their other stuff, it's a popular character they've drawn before (Miku), fastidiously tagged to the point I was scared of going over the top... so, what lesson should I learn from this? Or did I just get unlucky?

As I am not an approver I won't comment on the image itself, however most of that artist's active uploaded works did not go through the queue so may not be the ideal way to judge whether an artist's work will be approved.
I would try appealing if you think it belongs.

I completely missed that, thank you. I'll try to keep that in mind in the future.

Suppose you're right. I'll give it a try, first time for everything. Kinda wish it'd taken a bit longer, though.

Any missing tags can always be added later. We do expect users to tag their own uploads as best they can, but poor tagging has no effect on the art quality, so it doesn't make sense to not approve a post solely because of missing tags.
This was my first time using this site.
I was not approved for a few days because I did not have the source and was advised to do so, so I added the source, will the deadline be extended in this case?
I was huffing and puffing when I saw the opinion that there are not many approvers during the month of January. It was a blind spot.
Perhaps I may lose a lot of slots.

Sorry I'm new to the site and not familiar with the rules.
I had no source and was not approved until today, but I have added the source for all of them.
Please check it out.

Excuse me but.....why wasn't this approved ?
The artist has had several similar pics of them approved here so I fail to see why this one in particular did not get approved

There's a button on top of the site's bar that says "wiki". THere's a tagging section there as well, it'll help if you take a look around. I don't think the wiki says this, but I found it to work if you think about or consider tagging everything and anything possible (no matter how minor, never know if someone's searching for that tiny thing) that you see in the image. Try not to be broad. Use specifics if you can. What kind of jacket? What color? Where is the subject looking/facing? expressions, what are they doing (body language)? background? what kind of background? etc.
I know there's a "/20" on the post tags but I'd encourage you go higher than that (if possible). I don't recall, but one of my posts had quite a lot of tags, and that's a more detailed artwork I think. (example of such: post #8646498)
As for sources, there's a site called "SauceNao" you can check out. If that doesn't work then try Google reverse image or Yandex reverse image (worst case scenario, you can put the link you found the image on, e.g. pinterest with a artist/source request tag, its better than no source at all)
Hope this helps

Only 3 approvers reviewed your post, try appealing it.

I just recently uploaded something, but it seems like it got... banned?
I'm slightly confused, I can't link it since I cant uh... access it?
The banned artist tag was added automatically as this artist requests their works not be uploaded to Danbooru, even if they are commissions. See help:artists under the Banned Artist heading.

Lacking the source, SauceNAO and Yandex can help as Sik said. Once you've got it, I prefer passing that (URL) directly to danbooru on the upload page, since it'll autofill source and other data (e.g. artist, commentary) automatically whenever possible.
I just started, myself, so maybe there's even better ways. Thought I'd tell you, though, in case it might help.

Oh I genuinely didn’t know that! I asked for permission and they *did* give me it, but fair enough.
Will this affect my other uploads or will it kinda just be no big deal?

It won't affect your other uploads. If the artist is not on the banned artist list, the posts won't be taken down unless the artist submits a DMCA takedown request. Some artists may only ask that specific posts be removed rather than request a blanket ban on all of their works.
If the artist is okay with their works being posted here but is currently on the banned artist list, I assume they could get taken off the list by contacting evazion (the site owner) with proof of their identity.

I’ll mention it to them and see what they say!
I appreciate the response, I was worried that I may have bricked my uploads or smth LOL
