Regarding what to do with Rifyu

Deciding these comics are funny or not is as good as judging whether a post is disgustingly adorable.

Do it like a normal flagging process: as long as there is one admin/mod/janitor expresses their opinion of wanting to keep those comics, these posts should stay. And from how albert talked about it, I think he wants to keep them.

Rifyu's stuff is "Acceptable". Like albert said, it's not exactly a database clogger, the artwork isn't some shitfest, and the humor is funny for some.

What about the merits of the artwork alone, 葉月?

I don't have a strong opinion on rifyu's comics, but I don't see them as less funny or well-drawn than most of bkub's stuff.

I don't think 葉月's opinion that they're badly drawn and unfunny is reason enough for deletion. They've been through the approval process; I don't see what part of Danbooru policy can be used as grounds for deletion.
Are you proposing amending the policy somehow to prevent his comics from being uploaded and approved in the future too? forum #55288 was pretty unanimously against blanket banning an artist.

FeKa posted a list of comics he'd want to keep in forum #57118. If he says he likes them, I'd say that's exactly as strong an argument as that which was given for their deletion. Isn't the approval of a janitor enough by itself?

Well, I don't know why just because you don't think it's funny all other people should think it too. I think it's funny, and so do other fans of rifyu's work.

Again, *just* "there are people who like it" is not a sufficient argument for things to stay on danbooru. Please refer to about:mod_queue, discussions on various mass-appeal-but-still-nuked things like nude_filter, etc. As our wiki states on the frontpage, we're striving to be a *high quality* repository of art. That means we'll sometimes consciously choose to omit popular content we feel doesn't meet our standards.

If you want a site that has everything with no moderation whatsoever, look at pixiv. We're not a pixiv mirror, and not trying to be.

Let's just do it this way:

I say Rifyu stays. Maybe Rifyu breaks the rules, but I like Rifyu, so Rifyu is an exception.

All the Rifyu haters can hate me all they want. "Fuck Danbooru, they let shit artists like Rifyu get past moderation."

It's okay. I accept your hate. I'm used to it.

I'm not quite sure why we're defining ourselves as "high-quality" and "best" art. While we do strive to have those, I've always felt the better approach is that "we accept what is good." Sure "good" is subjective, but then again so is our approval process.

Exactly why is it that our only options are "we have the best" or "we have everything"? It's not like the middle ground between these two doesn't exist.

And could you please say why rifyu's work don't meet your standards? Because I only saw you saying things like "it's unfunny" or "it's badly drawn".

No, they haven't. Most of them have been uploaded by a contributor.

Right; I meant to say that all of them had either been uploaded by a contributor, or been approved by a janitor.
Nevertheless, a lot of them had indeed been approved.

That's exactly why. Have you read the wiki pages I linked?

Man, you really deserve a portrait.

The choice is for when the quality conflicts the quantity. In those cases, it's been our policy to choose the former. Whether it's "good" or "best" is not really relevant, the point is that we care about having good stuff more than about having a lot of stuff.

I'm a little disappointed with the danbooru. A place where opinions of a few impose a dictatorship, where does not exist a pattern.
The fact there supose is a "rule" to delete this artist just proves the hypocrisy of this site. Disappointing...

RIP

The fact is: who likes rifyu will just thumbs up all 4komas (because they find it funny, cute, whatever).

Who doesn't like will just thumbs down.

And everyone will be happy just filtering what you don't want to see.

So, just because you don't like it it's not good enough to danbooru? Seriously, it doesn't make any sense. If all mods (or the major part of them) had agreed with this it would be acceptable, but you just deleted because you felt like deleting that. I can't understand, sorry.

A big part have agreed, in case you haven't noticed. And practically nobody is objecting to calling the art bad. Which is exactly why they fall short of the quality we normally require.

Rifyu's comics appeal to simple-minded people. His humor is poor yet he still makes comics because certain people enjoy them. The quality may be horrid but it still has its place. 葉月 slipped up a bit, but who doesn't. I don't see why people are flaming. Just my two cents.
