Followup from forum #171228. There'll still be a lot of posts to sort through after that but this ought to populate the tag a fair bit as a start.

I think following the line of thought that "female is the default" doesn't work as much as it's been hyped to - a brief glance at dark_skin -dark_skinned_male will show that there's so many untagged males that this kind of search doesn't really bring the results one wants (try going through dark_skin -dark_skinned_male rating:e and count how many stray dark penises you find!). This is also true for all the other male-specific tags (and why we ended up having to create female pubic hair recently for example, see topic #17243).

If we HAVE to have gender-specific tags, as is the case for fetish stuff, we gotta have both, we can't just have one and pretend it works - the alias from dark skinned female to dark skin was created because people kept populating it, which if anything goes to show that people want the tag.

I completely agree with those statements.
Time and tagging has shown, that gender specific tags for both genders are needed, in such cases.

I'd like to suggest that once we garden the tagging to the point that there are 0 results for dark_skin -dark_skinned_female -dark_skinned_male, we should nuke the dark_skin tag.

  • People who are searching for the tags or excluding tags from search results will often have a specific idea in their minds of one or the other that they are/aren't looking for.
  • People who are tagging an upload who don't know, don't remember, or are new to the site might continue to use dark_skin alone on their uploads without either of the more specific tags. The lower the tagging reliability is, the less useful the more-descriptive tags will be.
