I use colored sweaters instead of colored cardigans since the latter seems superfluous and fragments the tags. That's my opinion though, so I'd like to make it official on whether we should be using colored cardigan tags, or consolidating those underneath the colored sweater tags.
I prefer to use colour_cardigan, if we use color_sweater tags for cardigans we should do the same for sweater vests (which is a bad idea as well)

Count me in the "cardigans aren't sweaters" camp. I appreciate the fact that they're of similar construction and knit patterns, but their function is different; sweaters can be worn on their own like a shirt, but cardigans are invariably worn as an outer layer over another garment.
I'm no fan of the <color>_cardigan tags, but I'd rather alias them to unified <color>_outerwear tags (along with all the <color>_coat and <color>_jacket tags) than anything that implicates sweater.
