• album_cover: -1 None of the other *_cover tags are meta
• novel_illustration: +1
• end_card: Kind of iffy, as many of them seem to have common visual elements, to include artist/copyright/company identifiers, along with standard TV ratios.
• video_crop: +1

I'm for end_card myself. Just like with wallpaper and screencap it's an image format, even if it has noticeable traits inside the image.
eyecatch should probably get the same treatment then.

If we want album_cover to be meta then these would become meta as well for consistency:
doujin cover
magazine cover
dvd cover
novel cover
fake cover
game cover
back cover (btw what even is this one?)
manga cover
movie_poster (maybe, sometimes it's used for posters inside the image)
Not really opposed to it, again these are image formats/types rather than elements inside the image.

Worth noting that some album cover posts are not actually album covers, but posts parodying album covers, like post #2626032.

Definitely agree with end_card and novel_illustration , not sure about the rest.

Most covers are the front cover of a book, magazine, doujin, whatever. This is a tag for when they're the back cover instead.

My reason with album cover was that many are the art without the title that would appear on the actual cover, so the fact that they're album covers is external information and not an intrinsic property of the picture. I think the other types of covers more often are the cover including the title. But either way, I guess there are examples of both. The ones that are parodies, etc definitely don't fit as meta, which is a problem. You could argue that "art that happens to be drawn for a cover" and "a cover as an object, whether an item in the picture or the whole picture" should be two separate tags, but that isn't likely to happen so if album cover stays general that's fine.

To be frank, I don't care very much about this and I don't want to spend the time discussing it. If someone wants to edit the BUR to match whatever consensus there is, go ahead.
