What is this?

"If this post was automatically deleted, then it means at least *ten janitors* all thought it didn't belong on the site. If you still believe this image was wrongfully deleted, then you can appeal its deletion."

"It has been reviewed by 6 moderators. 6 did not like the post enough to approve it."

deleted even though SIX, not TEN, didnt like it. even though it has a fav/score of 6/6

Not everyone approves posts through the moderation queue, which means that they won't show up as having reviewed your post.

Also, there's no hard rule that says a certain number of moderators need to have reviewed a post.

Finally, score or favcount have no reflection on whether a post will or should get approved.

so basically nothing makes sense

It makes perfect sense. Everyone has different tastes. Two people can look at the same picture and have different opinions.

You just have to accept that your upload was rejected, no matter how good you might think it is. I've had a couple that had decent scores and still got deleted.

If you want your uploads to be accepted, try looking at other images that have been accepted and see what they have that yours didn't.

It can be frustrating, yes, but I don't think it's anything to get mad over. At least, getting upset won't help your case here.

Yep. I still have deleted uploads I think should have been accepted, but at this point I just roll with the punches. One of my deleted uploads has 30+ favorites (post #2565821) but still got deleted due to some small but meticulous flaws. It'd probably be accepted if I tried negotiating it further, but I'm not pushing it.

Just gotta upload the best you find first, that's what I learned when I started uploading. What's popular isn't always good, what's good isn't always popular. And most of all you're going to have to appeal to a general interest instead of upping more niche stuff, that way there's something for everyone to like.

No, it's not. Janitors are expected to have a high eye for quality, that's how they're selected and that's what their job is. Typically the rung of promotion goes Builder -> Contributor (Builder w/ unrestricted ups) -> Janitor (unrestricted ups + approval privs). Unless you're selected as a test Janitor, but that's a case that happens sparsely and uses different criteria.

Sure, they may have good days where they'll approve anything that looks barely acceptable, and other times they'll have bad days where they'll be really stringent on what comes through. But it is anything but random, since uploads are quite figuratively handpicked from the queue.

Actually, Janitors are expected to be somewhat lenient, if the last Janitor recruitment specifications set out by Type were any indication. The most important job for Janitors is to approve the borderline images that aren't terribly amazing, not only because the average viewer tends to have a lower bar of quality, but also to allow new users to actually upload anything at all with the rate at which new images are gobbled up by one-tag-uploads from Contributor-Builders.

It's the job of Contributors to have a high eye for quality, because they have the power to avoid the queue.

Edit: And one doesn't need to be have unrestricted uploads to get approval powers.

Ah, thanks for clarifying. I admit I'm still wet behind the ears when it comes to booru stuff. And yeah, it is especially difficult to catch all of the good art by the most popular artists so new uploaders have to rely on other various sources. I heard it was worse (or to whom you speak, better) in the past when some of the quickest uploaders like Schrobby were still around.

I suspected as much, although I've never tried out for approval privileges -- I just don't browse the feed enough yet. It appears to me though that the most active approvers usually also have unrestricted uploads, so there's that.

EDIT: Oh, it's that person trying to evade bans again.

Whether the user is a ban evader or not, that message should probably be changed. Because images often don't get checked by 10 people with approval priveleges and there's nothing in place to ensure that images do get checked by that many.

What message?
And a mod has to verify the ban evasion btw. and ban this user (again).

It's quoted in the first post of the thread and indeed is the whole original purpose of the thread.

If this post was automatically deleted, then it means at least ten janitors all thought it didn't belong on the site. If you still believe this image was wrongfully deleted, then you can appeal its deletion.

(bold is in original and is the bit that I am referring to)

That is nice. But unless this is buried anywhere in the wikis, I couldm't find this quote.
You might want to link the wiki where this is from.

As I said, it's the message that comes up above the box to enter your appeal reason when you go to appeal an image.

If it were a wiki page then I'd have just fixed it myself.
