Ootachi seems to be the preferred term. Both the English and Japanese Wikipedias redirect nodachi to ootachi. Pixipedia has a long article under ootachi, and a short one for nodachi that says it's another name for ootachi. Ootachi is also the term used in Touken Ranbu.

For the reading of 大太刀, the Japanese Wikipedia lists ootachi first and oodachi second, and Pixipedia doesn't list oodachi at all. However the English Wikipedia only has oodachi.

Wouldn't the katana implication be wrong? Like essentially saying revolver should implicate pistol. Above Katana would simply be the category of "Japanese sword" or "日本刀 nihontu."

My impression was that katana was already being used to mean "nihontou"; the wiki currently lists 日本刀 as one of its "other names". But we could start a nihontou tag and implicate both katana and ootachi to that.

The wiki has mixed messages. It states a Katana is "A type of Japanese sword (nihontou)," saying the tag is of a specific Japanese sword, but then has 日本刀 as one of its alternative names. So either the wording of the wiki is incorrect or the alternative name label is wrong.

Sidenote: The user who added that alternative name has done so for many other wikis. I've had questions on the accuracy of some of those alternative names on a few I had seen in the past... so can't say I exactly trust alternative names added by that user.

Yes, I can't find anywhere online that romanizes the word 大太刀 as ootachi. It seems that oodachi (ōdachi) is the de facto romanization of it.
