each girl seems to wear them differently.
some observations:
yukikaze - looks like a torpedo tube launchers
tenryuu - probably the bridge with attached weapons
kitakami - funnel/chimney
kaga - mast that functions as a quiver
ayanami, fubuki - chimney and mast
chitose - seaplane catapults
for most cases, mecha_musume or machinery is used for tagging these unless we want to be specific on the ship's parts.
Bumping this because I've noticed that the shipgirls' battle gear seems to get tagged as rigging quite a lot and it would be nice to establish a single tag that can be used consistently. This should probably apply to zhan jian shao nyu and other personifications as well.
Also, was there ever any discussion that took place before machinery became the de facto standard for tagging this equipment, or was it simply something that stuck for lack of a better tag? The tag is now so overwhelmed by girls wearing ship parts that without multiple tag exclusions it's pretty useless for searching for anything resembling actual machinery (e.g. post #225851, post #1033662, post #2006462). And the relationship of machinery to machine isn't clear at all.
