Policy clarification: Yaoi?

Posted under General

So it says on the upload page that yaoi isn't allowed on Danbooru. However, 53 pages of images tagged 'yaoi' seems to say differently. So which is it? I'd like some clarification on this since it doesn't seem to be addressed anywhere else yet.

Ah, didn't see that before. So in conclusion of that thread and the older thread linked to in it, it appears that yaoi is technically occasionally allowed as long as it's good quality and as long as it isn't flooded?

If that's the case, why hasn't the policy been updated to reflect that?

The "occasionally allowed" is more along the lines of "rules may be bent occasionally". If you post something that bends the rules and the community accepts it, it stays. If it's not accepted it gets deleted and you might have to deal with the consequences of having bent the rules (e.g. a bad report).

Because if the policy was updated idiots with twisted definitions of 'good quality' would then procede to upload too much material. Keeping the offical statement of 'no, nu-uh, gtfo' and having an implicit understanding (particularly amongst Contributors) of when and where the rules can be bent is generally more effective.

That way not only does it keep the yaoi down, but typically only those given contributor status (ie, those that are acknowledged as knowing what the fuck belongs on the website*) feel confident enough to bend the rules on a very specific subset of 'once in a six month period' or whatever you call it. But then again I mostly upload landscape pictures and identify artists, so take my opinion with a grain salt.

*. In theory. Consider this my disclaimer.

Well okay then. Seems pretty shady, but I see what you're getting at with it.

It seems VERY shady, really. What's the point of tags then? If you search for what you want to see, you filter out all the rest. Don't want yaoi, don't search for yaoi. Also, "traps" are also featured in yaoi works aimed at females. How are we to define when something is meant for men or for women (which I assume is the point behind the silly "no yaoi" rule) as a by-picture basis?

Oh well, as long as it's a "soft rule" it seems fine. Still, I think it's pretty silly.
