Semi-public pools

Posted under General

If you had an option to let other users add stuff to your pool but not delete from it, it would really make it easy on pools like pool #208 or pool #109. You'd basically just have to moderate your own pools: remove the posts that shouldn't be there and keep the others. This way you could let people contribute to your pool without leaving it Public and risk getting all of it deleted by of some joker, or having to have them PM you every time there's a post that might look like it should be in your pool. Sound good?

Pools could just be a string consisting of post numbers separated by commas, with two statuses, locked and unlocked. Maintain a wiki-like history so you can revert pool vandalism. Unlocked means literally anyone can edit it, locked means nobody can edit it. Only mods (dare I include janitors?) can change locked status, encouraged status is unlocked. How's that sound?

Actually the "string" part is not strictly necessary, if we want to retain the capability for nonlinear post numbering methods.

Is there anything wrong with my solution? Do people really fear pool vandalism that much? We already have tag vandalism, but it's not a huge problem. Why not just leave all pools open, with a history so the owner can revert changes? We should also remove the pools-to-add-to drop down from the post pages, since that'd only encourage vandalism of highly visible pools. Pool adding should be by pool ID only, IMO.
