Requesting IP ban for this user

Posted under General

This topic has been locked.

All accounts created on the same day, working in perfect unison, all to upload heaps of horrible kiryu_manzoku crap. Given the absolute lack of reaction to my ban for the first four and the merry way the other two continued, I suspect it's not even a person but a fully automated bot. Thus I'd like to request a permanent IP ban for trying to bypass the queue (and overwhelm the mods with shit) like that.

The uploader added tags that were relevant to the images. I'm not sure if a bot could do that. He probably didn't react to the bannings because he knew it was coming.

Might very well be a semi-automated system where they basically have a proxy bot in place that redirects to whatever account has free slots at the moment. Which I suspect is exactly what's going on here, as some of these accounts have earlier uploads.

...Why? Just because someone exploits the system in uploading doesn't mean they weren't approved on their own merits.

Search the tags you don't want to approve, hide them all, then return to the normal queue.

Purging and mass-flagging is always a bad idea IMHO. It causes lots of bad blood between mods and members of other levels, and can bypass the checks and balances of the queue. Look at what happened with Rantuyetmai's perception after he did something similar.

Because if he didn't exploit the system, he wouldn't be allowed to post majority of them (right after his posting limit dropped to zero)?

In my opinion such blatant abuse of system fully validates an extraordinary action as for example flagging all the previous posts done by this user and his all sock puppets.

You're basically suggesting punishing him by removing his uploads and making his efforts futile. Isn't permanent blocking of all use of the site enough to discourage and deal with upload limit evading? Punish the user, not the content, surely.

I'm not sure what deleting the posts would gain us. If the uploader is willing to throw away accounts and IP addresses, why would deleting his uploads change what he's doing? Of course if we do delete them, we're deleting them because of who uploaded them, not because of the image's own merit. Having the image on the system prevents anyone else from uploading it, or are you suggesting we double delete them? What would that gain us? So someone else could take credit for the upload? If that's the case, then what's the point? We're just wasting everyone's time, as someone else has to spend the time to upload it, someone else again has to look over it in the mod queue, someone else has to put the effort of tagging the images again, and someone else has to go through the effort are putting in the translations again. Sounds like nothing more than the biggest waste of time possible.

The images that you would be suggesting being deleted, likely go back as far as at least 7 months ago. A month ago I was contacted by Hinacle about this same issue, and I reported it to Albert. It resulted in an IP ban and several accounts were set to 0 uploads. They were all uploading image sets from this same artist, with at least one account having started uploading 7 months ago. Looking at the images, essentially almost every image from page 1 to 8 of kiryu_manzoku has been uploaded by one of these accounts.

Time to implement reCaptcha for uploads?

Ew. That won't stop people evading upload limits (which doesn't require a bot) and will annoy everyone else (especially the ones who use scripts to upload good art).

Edit: Actually, that could work for creating accounts, but definitely not uploads or any other part of the site.

reCaptcha seems like a bad idea, unless it was limited only to new users (For 3~ days since registering). Even then, I'm fairly sure it's possible to bypass it..meaning adding it would be pointless.

As you can see IP blocking didn't work (not that I'm especially surprised)

It would convey loud and clear message: rules are here to be obeyed. Mind you, if we don't punish him the message we send is exactly the opposite one.

And yes, if we're absolutely consistent we should not only delete all these posts, but also double delete them.
My proposition of only flagging them is a compromise between punishing abuser and not punishing the content.

Instead we could make policy of banning users who make stupid suggestions on the forums. Everybody wins!

This isn't going to go anywhere. Dmail albert if the user continues creating new accounts with the names of said accounts.
