Tag move: pokemon_trainer -> red_(super_smash_bros.)

Posted under General

[Possibility 1, my favorite]

[Possibility 2, my less favorite]

[Explanation]

  • "Pokémon trainer" is ambiguous. Many characters are Pokémon trainers; that tag could conceivably and intuitively mean "anyone with their team of Pokémon" or "anyone training Pokémon".
  • In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, a game of the Super Smash Bros. series, Red (the male player character of certain Pokémon games) appears, with his appearance and clothes from Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, including his yellow backpack and blue vs. seeker, but is instead named "Pokémon Trainer" in the character select screen, hence the current generic tag name.
  • In Bulbapedia, the page "Red (game)" (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Red_%28game%29) encompasses the Red of Super Smash Bros., among other games.
  • Even the wiki of pokemon trainer says "As the name indicates, a Pokémon Trainer is a person who catches, trains, cares for and battles with Pokémon. While usually a general term, it can also refer to the playable character in Super Smash Bros. Brawl that uses a Squirtle, Ivysaur, and Charizard.", somewhat encouraging it to be (ambiguously) used for either SSBB's Red or anyone else that fits that description.

Updated

Pokemon trainer is supposed to be "ambiguous." It's supposed to apply to any pokemon character who trains or uses pokemon. It makes it easy to find pictures of teams or battles.

The pokemon trainer from super smash bros., however, doesn't need to have his own tag. While it is his official name and respecting official names is traditional Danbooru policy, as far as Danbooru's concerned they are completely identical. Trying to force any kind of separation is just an unnecessary pain in the ass, and red_(pokemon) + super_smash_bros. covers it just fine, anyway.

Even if pokemon trainer is "supposed to apply to any pokemon character who trains or uses pokemon", it is de facto restricted to SSBB's Red only, nonetheless. As you can see...

1. Most images of SSBB's Red are tagged pokemon trainer and not tagged red (pokemon).
2. Most images of other Pokémon trainers are not tagged pokemon trainer.
3. The list of pokemon characters, the wiki of super_smash_bros. and the wiki of red (pokemon), all link to pokemon trainer as the player character of SSBB.
4. pokemon trainer is a character tag; if it applies to any trainer, it should be a general tag.

I support the idea of "merging" SSBB's Red with FRLG's Red, since they are identical in appearance and clothes anyway. It's easy to do this:

A. Adding the tag red (pokemon) to all the few dozens of instances of SSBB's Red.
B. Rewriting the links in the aforementioned wikis to point to red (pokemon).

P.S.: Currently, I don't care much about what happens to pokemon trainer, as long as it's not restricted to SSBB's Red. In theory, there are many ways to populate a general tag for Pokémon trainers.

EDIT:

Some wording, some additions.

Updated

Did:

  • Add red_(pokemon) and /ssbb to all instances of SSBB's Red.
  • Edit pokemon trainer to be a generic tag for any Pokémon trainer. (this includes turning it from Character: to General:)
  • Update the wikis to point to the correct character tag,
  • Remove all the few dozens of images of SSBB's Red from pokemon trainer, to better separate the character and the generic tag, for now. (Images like post #848764, if devoid of context, don't look like they depict pokemon trainers anyway. If that generic tag is populated with multiple trainers in the future, the right images of Red can be readded.)
