Pointless Pools

pool #3406 (FUCKING AWEOSME)

Some kinda low-grade trolling attempt.

Yeeeah, this guy's just grabbing attention (not Shadow, the pool creator). Not to tell the admins their job, but I think banning him is the best option since he's just here to be a nuisance.

I can definitely see it having a purpose of collecting images that look like a scene out of an anime, but it needs trimming. Numerous images are just posters or pinups that don't fit that criterion at all, and if you don't have that then the pool has no purpose.

fake_screenshot covers a lot of those instances, unless you mean something more along the lines of the Anime Coloring pixiv tag.

I think something like anime coloring, but only for images beyond just characters. With backgrounds and such that make the image look good enough to be a cap, because no one's going to mistake an image with a plain white background for a cap.

Forgive me, but I fail to see how that isn't just fake screenshot.

Fake_screenshot seems to be applying when the image is made to actually make you think it's a screenshot. Game UIs, menus, fake subtitles, fake credit reels or title logos, putting black bars on the top and bottom of the image, that sort of thing. But what we're discussing here is simply images whose backgrounds and style of coloring makes them look like they could be taken right out of an anime broadcast, not from any visual cues like what I listed.

For example, post #676733 from the pool. I'm not really seeing anything here that's trying to fool me into thinking it's a screenshot, so I'm not sure it should really be tagged with fake_screenshot. However, it does give off that anime-esque feeling.

I'm pretty sure artists don't actually think that these are going to fool people, they're just exercises in emulation of a style. In the case of fake TV anime caps that emulation is based pretty much on the coloring, not junk like letterboxing and watermarks, indecently the hallmarks of a crappy cap.

If we need a distinction my vote is for the way feline lump suggests.

Actually fooling anyone isn't the point. The point is, fake screenshots are made to look as if it was actually a cap of something, with the aforementioned menus, conversation windows, black bars, logos and etc. There needs to be something inside the image that suggests to the viewer it's supposed to resemble a screenshot. And what I'm saying here is that to call images that don't have any of that and are merely done in the style of anime "fake screenshots" is just too inaccurate and/or broad.

And Shinjidude, the prevalence of images in that pool that don't seem to fit any noticeable criteria is the reason it's being debated here. Many, many of the images the creator stuck in there, as you said, look no different than the average Danbooru post. Which is why we're debating if we could salvage it and limit it to a feasible criterion, or if that's even of any use at all.

I wouldn't see any harm in leaving it as a mere pool that gathers images that look like they're from an anime, both with the fake black bars and without, even though the ones with black bars would have overlap with fake screenshots, but in its present form the creator is just stuffing it with random Toohoos.

The fake anime cap tag would also be a decent idea, but I'm just not sure there's enough images to make that worth it.

The pool that is being debated, pool #3407, is flat out a favorite pool. Everything the pool creator wishes to have been official are put in there, I see no reason to keep it.

However it does rise up a legitimate idea: collection of images that look like they have been part of an actual anime due to coloring technique and background. See post #718936 for some idea how anime color differs from other techniques. Thus anime_coloring is a real concept about artistic technique, not much different from how we try to tag various /trad and /ftrad media (copics, pencil crayon, etc). It defines how an image looks like overall.

---------------------------

Fake screenshot is for images that look like a screenshot, regardless if the artist intended to fool anyone or not. It can be divided into game and anime screenshot, I don't object that although I won't be fond to tag that detail.

Images with black bars have their own tag: letterboxed. Please use it.

Fake screenshot may or may not have letterboxed, may or may not have anime coloring. By combining these 3 I think we have more than enough information to find images with the original purpose of the pool.
