Doujinshi uploading

I'd like to point out that the poor quality of many soft translations are not corrected after a very long time and very likely never will be.

So? Very many are updated, and the difference is that for soft translations, it happens usually/often/sometimes, whereas for hard translation it's guaranteed never to happen.

Now that Reitaisai 8 is canceled (for now), many pixiv artists are posting what would normally be sold in the convention online. As a result, a few doujins are beginning to be uploaded on Danbooru now (example: pool #3027, pool #3103). Should we let them know not to upload these doujins just because they're on pixiv?

Incidentally, I notice several times in the recent past that a few users are uploading samples for doujins (pool #3085). I know they get approved sometimes. Should this behavior be discouraged?

Any reasons not to allow them uploading what they find in pixiv? It's pretty legit for them to be uploaded rather than the usual scanlations, in my opinions.

I guess I just don't want to see people uploading a lot of doujins simply because they're easy to access. But if they're of good quality, I guess I won't mind too much.

Not stealing is only one reason for the faux ban. Don't forget the other reasons; keeping standards high and danbooru not being the best place for sharing such material.

Don't make it a free-for-all just because they're on pixiv.

It's a hundred times better than Wakaba or whatever kids are using these days. The annotation support makes translation accessible; improves efficiency. I'm honestly surprised more groups don't seem to leverage danbooru (the software, I mean) for working on things...

Also, people on Pixiv have a strong tendency to delete fucking everything for little to no reason. :/

Indeed, this is among the few places where one can see a doujin get translated in decent manner that doesn't involve folks like CGRascal. Honestly the typical Danbooru translation is quite a ways superior to a typical CGRascal translation.

But it should be of some quality.

CGRascal also translates stuff on Danbooru, and his translations here are reasonably accurate.

That's still better than nothing, notably when he's the sole translator around for a number of works. I'm grateful for that so can we avoid blaming him too much?

I feel dumb for repeating a discussion that probably already happened on a number of other sites but please.

*sigh*. Any translation is not better than no translation. I don't want to have this discussion again either, but poor quality translations are actually worse than nothing.

I share your opinion about danbooru because you're likely to have a more competent translator dropping by eventually.

When it never happens however, nope, there I stop agreeing.

It depends on if you mind if you are misinformed or not. Take early VHS anime for example, importers wouldn't bother to actually translate them and instead just redubbed them with whatever seemed to sound good given what was going on. That sort of "translation", in my mind is worse than raw by a good margin, even if the material never got translated otherwise.

Hell, no. A bad translation isn't better than no translation. It's not only misinformation, it decreases the chance that somebody else might pick it up because "X already did it", without noticing that X did it very poorly.

Especially here, where changing translation_request for translated takes it off the focus of any particular translators who might be looking through a tag for some stuff they'd like to translate.

My reply to sgc was only about CGrascal and regarding his job as a whole, not only here.

I was referring to his translations here, on Danbooru, specifically. What he does elsewhere is best discussed elsewhere.
