I've only seen the first FMA anime, but who is what Sin differs between series. So I assume you could see character x in "Sin" getup, but knowing they're not a Sin in the other series tells you which one is being depicted.

Well, personality is mainly the same, but for example their backstories are different, their secret identities are different, etc. etc.
By the way you probably mean "aware of" rather than "akin to", which means "similar to". Or maybe you were going for "privy to", but that suggests that someone is actively trying to hide it from you.
