How are basin, washbowl and washpan different? We also have falling basin wiki referring to the thing as washpan. And then there's also washtub which I'd assume is more rectangular rather than round and is used for washing clothes instead of bathing.
I think there should also be distinction between the wooden Japanese style ones such as post #7903999 and the more commonly seen metal/plastic ones like post #7961311 and post #158975
I'd suggest moving away from the term basin on its own as being overly ambiguous. If you do an image search for the term, the majority of images that will come up actually are of a style of bathroom sink. The minority of images are then for geological basins, plastic wash basins, stone basins for water fountains, etc.

Yeah, that tag needs gardening, but so do other mentioned tags. If we merge them, what's the merged tag should be called? "Washbasin" maybe?
If we are to use the term basin, then having more specific versions like washbasin would make sense. Washpan seems the most appropriate term for the metal ones though. The small wooden ones you'd take for washing yourself (post #7995544) as far as some googling suggests would be called a furo-oke, though given the sources are English should take with a grain of salt as there might be more appropriate terms. Additionally it's not structurally different from the same style of container used for other purposes such as holding rice (post #4792198).

The rice one is called hangiri (or sushioke). We don't have a tag for that yet so I'll make one. I think furooke is correct for the bath/onsen one. I'll do a bit of gardening then will make a BUR to merge all current tags to "washbasin"
