converting oc x canon into a tag

Posted under Tags

BUR #35408 has been approved by @evazion.

mass update pool:22752 -original_character_with_canon_character -> original_character_with_canon_character
nuke pool:22752

this should be rather objective to tag, no? character from official media, paired romantically with an independent original character, is rather easy to check for manually. while the name in the BUR is less concise than the pool name, it's consistent with tags such as other with female or furry with non-furry

My main problem with this idea is not the concept (I agree wholeheartedly this should be a tag), but more that I think the name is...Kinda clunky. I kinda like oc with canon as a possible suggestion, but I don't really know how to solve this. I do thing this is a good idea tho, especially if we're going in this sorta tagging direction (as I know plenty of people would love to search for/blacklist this).

There are many situations where this could get fuzzy.

Is the warrior of light from FF14, whose appearance every player can freely customize, an OC?
What about characters like the Trainer in Umamusume, who are canon but have no canon appearance?
What about original Umamusume, who in some cases just borrow the appearance of canon characters (post #6501197 / sunday silence)?
And is something like post #6088298 an "original character with canon character"?

I also bet there have been a few occasions out there where a character started as someone's fan OC and was "canonized" later, but am drawing a blank for a specific example.

That said, these situations are not any less fuzzy if it's a pool and not a tag, but be mindful of them if the BUR goes through and you write up a wiki page.
I guess a really easy way to deal with it would be to say "if you would tag the post original, it's OC with canon" but that's kind of just passing the buck. It also calls the actual utility of the tag into question compared to a search like original copytags:>2.

Edit: deleted part of my post commenting on tag names, should have read the wikis of the tags this proposed tag was being compared to. I think Danbooru's usage of "with" is unintuitive but it's clearly well established

The spirit of the tag is someone's OC getting shipped with an established character. The pool definition said that customizable player characters like MMO or RPG avatars count, but I don't really agree with that, those are not someone's OC and it's normal for them to interact with other characters. Things like gacha player avatars shouldn't count.
