upturned_eyes and downturned_eyes

If what you're saying is true, the current upturned/downturned eyes tags should be renamed first before any aliasing can happen, so as to not pollute the living hell of the tags you're aliasing to.

Edit: posted before the second post... those should be an alias/unalias pair (which will do the same thing as a rename) instead of a mass update so wikis and whatever else get moved over as well.

I'm just new to BUPs.

And besides, there are too many posts with the two tags (well above 200) so I can't request a bulk renaming.

That's when people request an alias and then remove the alias on the next line. As-is your syntax is still going to overpopulate the tag. Edit: sniped

Bulk renames can be done for 200+ post tags by requesting an alias followed by an unalias. It will have the same effect the rename would.

I'm gonna do this instead: update the tags, and after that, nuke them.

BUR #35404 is pending approval.

create alias upturned_eyes -> upward_glance
create alias downturned_eyes -> downward_glance

Same BUR as above without the alias removal.

I don’t have any problems with the rename, but I don’t think we should be repurposing a 15 year old tag for a completely different concept. Doing so won’t stop users from applying it according to the current guidelines. We’ll still end up with tsurime/tarame mistags even if we remove the aliases.

This is entirely wrong, they are meant for eyes that are aimed upwards or downwards compared to their face. (I wrote the upturned eyes wiki)

They’re not talking about how it was originally meant to be used on Danbooru. Do a Google search for the terms, or read topic #29725, to get a better idea of the reasoning behind the proposed change.

YOU are wrong, according to proper English. And given the fact that you are the one who created the upturned_eyes wiki, lemme ask: why would you think that upturned eyes=upward glance? Plastic surgeons and beauticians would like to have a word with you.

Thanks for your help.

Fair enough, I will say that in everyday life I've never heard the phrase to mean this (I've never spoken to a plastic surgeon nor beautician), nor seen it when reading, and I do see some references to my sense of the meaning when I Google the phrase (so it's not *wrong* per se, just less common). I'll admit though at least via Google it does seem that this meaning is more common. Up-voting the alias option.
