[Arknights, Endfield] Standardize character and copyright tags

Posted under Tags

I'm kinda unsure about both using _(arknights:_endfield) qualifier for main Endfield tags (gilberta, laevatein, etc.) and implicating them to original Arknights characters.
i.e., I don't like mismatching qualifiers in angelina_(arknights:_endfield) = gilberta_(arknights:_endfield) -> angelina_(arknights) chain

It's an official name so I chose it by default. What to use then? We absolutely need to choose something, because current situation is much worse than any of them.

Well, such an implication was already approved for Angelina, so why not?

Different games should have different qualifiers, don't they?

Wouldn't the BUR in forum #329064 be unable to be processed because Arknights (Series) doesn't exist as a copytag and cross-category implications aren't allowed? I remember a similar thing getting fixed with the creation of Left 4 Dead as a series tag. The thing is that I don't know if the particular fix that should be prepended to the BUR would be safe to make given how many posts exist for Arknights.

Might also be sort of weird to have an "Arknights (Series)" and an "Arknights" (no qualifier).

The qualifier for Endfield characters should be *_(arknights). It should only be *_(arknights:_endfield) if we somehow need to distinguish the Endfield version of a character from the original version of the character.

This follows precedence from other series such as Fate, where we use the name of the overall franchise as the default qualifier, and we only use the name of a specific game as a qualifier when a character appears in multiple games, and we need to specify which game they're from. For example, we have Nero Claudius (Fate/Extra) for the version of Nero Claudius from Fate/Extra, and Nero Claudius (Fate) for Nero Claudius in general. We don't have Nero Claudius (Extra) (Fate) or Nero Claudius (Fate) (Extra). For other characters we just have *_(Fate) unless we're talking about a specific version of a character from a specific game.

In general, when a game becomes a franchise, use the franchise name as the qualifier, not the game a character first appears in. Which game a character first appears in usually becomes irrelevant over time. See: Touhou.

And we don't need an Arknight (series) tag as long as 99.9% of it is the original game. Arknights has 139k posts and Arknights: Endfield has ~500 posts. It just creates tag bloat when every Arknights post gets an extra Arknights (series) tag that's identical to the first game. It's too premature to do this when Endfield isn't even officially out yet.

We made this mistake with Overwatch when Overwatch 2 was first announced. We split the Overwatch tag up into Overwatch 1 and Overwatch 2, but there turned out to be no significant difference between Overwatch 1 and 2. So now every Overwatch post gets multiple copyright tags, even though nobody actually searches for Overwatch 1 or Overwatch 2. All the search traffic is just for Overwatch, because that's what the game is called and nobody really cares about the distinction between the two.

To be fair, people were expecting a meaty PvE sequel when Overwatch 2 was initially revealed and saw all the new designs for the core heroes, not a glorified balance patch.

BUR #35218 has been rejected.

create implication arknights -> arknights_(series)
remove implication arknights:_endfield -> arknights
create implication arknights:_endfield -> arknights_(series)
remove implication ambience_synesthesia -> arknights
create implication ambience_synesthesia -> arknights_(series)

Besides Arknights (series) being 99% the first game, it's too confusing to have both Arknights and Arknights (series) as tags. It's too easy for people to just search Arknights and not realize they're only getting the first game, not the series. Compare this to Naruto vs Naruto (series) and notice how confusing that is.

If we want an Arknights (series) tag, we have to call Arknights something else. I don't know what else you could call it.

I'm also not sure why Ambience Synesthesia is even a copyright tag, given that it's basically just a concert series with associated costumes and not an actual game. Other things like idol franchises and VTuber companies get concerts too, but we don't usually give them copyright tags for their concert outfits.

Probably because the costume tags didn't exist until fairly recently, so you could only find them by searching the copyright tag.

That still doesn't explain why a copytag though, instead of a gentag like it would've been for other copytags. There's topic #22153, but we don't have anything showing whether or not it wasn't a copytag before then.
