I haven't played any of these games (yet) so I can't say for sure, most of my knowledge of this series is from JRPG fan osmosis and cursory searches. but I think all the mainline games as outlined in the SaGa wiki are disconnected from eachother in terms of story - even between the differently named "sub series" (e.g. Romancing SaGa 1 and Romancing SaGa 2)
I know it's mostly a gameplay series so I imagine the difference between e.g. the Romancing SaGa titled games and SaGa Frontier titled games are mostly just in gameplay / style. but they're all considered mainline anyhow (besides the 3 spinoffs/mobile games). I don't think it's needed.
