Should I create a new tag for anime-styled works?

Posted under Tags

It's pretty pointless. The site header is literally "Anime Image Board" and the uploading rules warn that anything not-anime has a higher risk of being deleted for being off-topic. Every post is already implied to be anime-styled unless tagged otherwise.

Do you really want to invite tagging wars over whether post #8232615 is anime style or western style? Because this is how you get dumb tag wars.

I mean that's clearly western with no ambiguity.

This thread reminds me of a one a while back where someone wanted a "western copyright" tag to weed out non-anime art but it's a flawed premise because western fans will draw art of Japanese properties like the Reimu above and JP artists will draw Looney Tunes art.

A better solution would be to keep track of the artist themselves and tag country of orgin. But as cool as it would be to search Chilean_artist and see fan art from that part of the globe or maintain Japanese purity that seems unfeasible and a way to fast track doxxing claims.

All that would end up doing is open the door for discrimination and targeted attacks, especially during international incidents like the Russo-ukrainian war. We're not even supposed to include that kind of info in artist wikis; tags would be out of the question.

It's also just not possible to actualize even if we wanted to. Not all artists list their home country, and while you might be able to make a safe assumption 8 or 9 times out of 10 based on the (non-English) language they speak, you couldn't do that for any artist that writes in English. We would just end up with a small percentage of artists (potentially incorrectly) tagged based on their country, with a ton more left out, and an open invitation to our users to be extremely weird and invasive about trying to figure out where every artist is from.

Danbooru cares about the art, not the artist. Identifying art as being "western styled" is the only way this could ever work, and it's not the least bit feasible.

I just grabbed a random example, specifically from alternate skin color because it'd be the worst with tagging wars. The specific example isn't really relevant, though I probably could have picked a better one.

My point is that the line between "anime style" and "animesque western" is very thin and OP's idea would be a subjective mess prone to fighting. (And, as mentioned, apply to 90% of the site.)

Yeah I think we remove that information from artist wikis even if they volunteer it themselves

Yeah we do, that's why I immediately shot it down. The point is that when people suggest things like an "anime" tag or a "western tag" there isn't a feasible way of doing it.
