Same person. umemaneco is their current name, nightmare_cat is the older tag.
As a general rule of thumb, you just need one single alias (which I presume is the nightmare_cat -> umemaneneco line, though correct me if I'm wrong), and it will go through and achieve the desire effect.
Either way, being the same person, this BUR should definitely go through. I just think it needs a little editing before I can safely approve it for ya.

I was trying to have the new tag aliased to the old one and then rename it to their current online umemaneneco. Is there not a way for me to do that without nuking the decade-old artist history of nightmare_cat?

@Ylimegirl This will realias the older tag back into the newer tag. umemaneneco will be aliased to the older tag nightmare_cat but the second line will not rename the tags, so this is effectively the same as only the second line of the BUR. Could you remove the top line? As in, the BUR should only alias the older tag to the newer tag. I can smith the tag names afterward so the older tag inherits the current name without losing artist history.
So that's just alias nightmare_cat -> umemaneneco.

Aliasing the older tag, Nightmare Cat, to the new one, Umemaneneco, does exactly what you are trying to do. Once aliased, the tags are merged together and all Nightmare Cat searches will redirect to Umemaneneco.
