My bad. It was a mistake.

Also, unless the old name is ambiguous an alias is preferred.

I already added the old name to their other names, so I thought a rename would be fine.

With the alias, the old name will redirect to the new one when people are searching for it. If the old name is only in the artist's other names, someone has to go to artist search and search for the artist's old name to find the artist's new name.
