If some series, character, or artist were to be called "masa ni" sometime in the future, it would be less work to rename it than to alias it now and unalias it later. I also thought it showing up in the autocomplete would be an argument against aliasing it.

Aside from that seeming quite unlikely, we've also lived with the current tag name for 14 years (minus 2 weeks), so we can probably live with it a while longer.

That's the case with ambiguous tags (where they would be the exact same if it weren't for the qualifier), but this rename is just to bring the name in line with other meme tags, not to prevent such confusion (which would've already manifested by this time if there was a possibility of that).

Alias and rename are functionally identical, the only difference is that an alias also leaves a permanent redirect in the autocomplete and when searching the old tag. In this case, it doesn't really matter.
