Upload Feedback Thread - post here if your uploads keep getting deleted

Posted under General

I'll be real, given the somewhat heavy lack of communication I've noticed the past while trying to upload stuff here over a couple years, I've still yet to really grasp exactly "how" quality is judged for posts.

There's been numerous instances where posts of mine are deleted for seemingly no reason aside from "the people who are looking at this don't personally like it enough" which is a bit unfortunate tbh.

I'd love feedback on like... any of the past 10 or so posts I've made that have been nuked, because it genuinely seems to just be at the whims of whomever happens to look at it at the time.

(But I've asked twice recently and both times my query was brushed past, so I figure a longer post detailing my gripes might do better.)

Edit: I should also add that appealing posts seems *wholly* useless, as 9 times out of 10 all it serves to do is reduce my upload limit. Which just further exacerbates the issue.

I not sure what wrong with it?

My guess is the anatomy and pose is stiff and lifeless (looking over their other people in their art this seems to be a consistent issue for them). The car itself is has a weird perspective and flat shading which makes it looks like it was done by a novice. Fortunately they do get better with their cars with each new piece they make.

I'm wondering what's up with my uploads..

here is a good example: https://danbooru.donmai.us/posts/8035626?q=status%3Adeleted+user%3Aromann9

it is high quality, has a source, appropriate tags, absolutely normal anatomy (in its own furry terms, ig), so what's the problem here?

The same things r going for all of my uploads, so if the approver is able to see the profile/nickname of the person that is uploading, then I think it's very fair to assume that this is entirely personal, just the fact that it's "not interesting" for the approver is a very absurd reason, don't u guys agree?

upd: on one of my posts the reason is "Risqué 3D isnt very popular with approvers." - with the same success the approvers can start saving pics to their pc's, and it's literally the same - the subjective judgement, not objective, which is making danbooru not for everyone, but for some specific circle/set of people, which is.. quite weird (yes I know that the literal garbage is getting sorted out and that's totally normal, but my uploads r objectively not garbage)

While I am not an approver, I can tell you my decision making process that I would use when posting up art. What I can tell of those pieces you are referring to you seem to be a rather big Lethe and Soren lover, and that's really cool! It's good to have your passion guide what you upload, but you also may be blinded by the quality of the art rather as a result.

Let's look at post #8026831, post #8026828, post #8026825, post #8020803, and post #7969894. All five of these of these have SERIOUSLY WEIRD face structures and lifeless anatomy. Their poses and expressions aren't quite the kind of design that the approvers here look for. Additionally, the coloration is pretty flat, which is where artists start when starting out but needs a bit more leveling up before they could stand up to the other peices here. Of those first five, post #8026825 has the best color, but the unnatural body language and strange anatomical flaws really hurt it. The cute and whimsical situations these characters find themselves in isn't good enough to see them past their glaring issues.

post #7893544, post #7893540, and post #7893532 -- these three are what I think the approvers would be considered "borderline." The line style is thick but the colors and posture have a bit more life in them. There's definitely a more experienced hand drawing these, and I think that if they were given an appeal you would have a good shot of getting at least one or two of them approved. Notice that each of them are still a little off -- 7893544 has a flat face and the arms are a little small compared to the size of the head, 7893540 has a strange pumpkin that is lacking detail and the interlocking fingers kind of feel a little awkward, and 7893532... actually that one is pretty solid, I'm going to go ahead and toss that one an appeal. I think it could clear.

post #7879431 -- Anatomy, also the hatchy line work doesn't look good. This looks like a draft.

post #7873031 -- It's borderline, but I don't think this one would clear, really. The art design is not very interesting and the expression doesn't really have much to say other than Lethe and Lyra resting next to each other. What is the story? There is no sense of connection or connectedness. I'm blind to Fire Emblem and I don't get any real sense of why an artist would want to draw this?

post #7873030 -- VERY borderline, and I can see it has already been appealed three times. There's something about this one that does feel a little off. It's the most expressive of your most recent 10, I guess I don't know enough about the characters to feel strongly about what this piece is trying to convey. iunno, if someone reads this and likes it enough to appeal, it might clear. I generally like to pitch my appeals (I do think having a good reason helps -- look at your now-approved post #8021016 ) and I can't really think of a good justification to appeal this.

Also, here's a bonus. post #8049252 is an earlier version of your approved post #5606938. My suspicion is that this one is not going to clear because 5606938 is a much better version that makes 8049252 redundant. I mention this mostly because I've had this same issue with a couple of my attempts, as I appealed post #3142626 last year which didn't make the cut because post #3153377 had been approved six years ago.

EDIT: regarding appeals. They DO work but they are very much an approval investment early on. For getting started it's much more important to get approvals under you belt which means it would be more sensible to try to improve you approval count. Consider only having one post pending approval (one you feel especially strongly about) and use the remainder of your upload potential getting new posts looked at.

Aaaanywho, hope this helped! Good luck!

It's important for you to be aware and use your powers to appeal. All four of these had not been appealed using the "appeal" button, which may be worth considering. I will say of the ones you provided (and is not currently pending an appeal), post #7999286 probably has the best shot, though the hands look disproportionately small compared to the body. I did not like post #7998493 because I found the color of it flat, sloppy, and unappealing.

There is no benefit for us to make the approval process personal. You just need one to like your post enough to approve it, why should we care about single uploaders?
Extreme fetish content is always harder to get approved and i personally just dont care about anal fisting. I wont use my freetime to Check uploads i dont care about. The approval process was always subjective and never objective. It's not perfect, but the best System we have so far.
"Not interesting" is simply the standard message for disapproving. The other two are "poor quality" and "rulebreaking". It's nicer than commenting "ugly" or "disgusting" on a lot of our recent uploads in the queue.
