How to tag instances of OC design theft?

Posted under Tags

I've been planning to make a tag for a specific original character that shows up a lot in dragon ball spaces, Majin Lamp (shown here: post #937327). Though, infamously, her design has widely been stolen from her original creator, epe-tohri, and many use it as their own against her wishes. Specifically, one instance of this is seen here in post #2639857 .

Would I still tag this as Majin Lamp despite it being a piece epe-tori didn't authorize to use her design? Or should I still tag it as Lamp and include the borrowed character tag? I'd like to know, especially if any future cases of this arise.

If I'm not using this forum function correctly either, please tell me. Some of this is still a bit new to me.

If it's the same character, then it should still be tagged as such and also tagged with borrowed character. The artist's wishes aren't relevant here.

If someone is using the artist's character and trying to pass it off as a completely different character (same appearance, different name), then I think it should be tagged with the character's original name and borrowed character. For example, if the original artist is calling this character "Majin Lamp" and someone else steals her design and calls her "Majin Light," then she should still be tagged as Majin Lamp.

Asking questions about specific situations like this is a valid use of the forum, so you're fine. I would make sure you're familiar with the stickied threads, though. There are also a few other general threads that aren't sticked (though they probably should be). It's preferable to post in those if your question fits the topics of those threads, but I think making a new thread for this question like you did is justified.

Ahh okay, thank you. I'll go for that then. Wanted to make sure I'd be tagging it correctly.

While this very specific situation justified the creation of a thread to solve your doubts, if in the future you have more doubts about how to properly tag your uploads, make sure to post your questions in topic #12251.
There you'll find users willing to help you with your tagging and any doubts you may have about the matter, instead of creating a whole new thread. It is normal to have doubts about tags and how to apply them in certain circumstances, so don't worry.

Basically, topic #12251 is like a request thread. If it's a simple question with a simple answer, you should post it there. Anything requiring a deeper discussion can get its own thread under the Tags category.
