Elden Ring DLC Implication

BUR #27047 has been rejected.

create implication elden_ring:_shadow_of_the_erdtree -> elden_ring

implying the expansion now. previews confirm it's a notably large dlc with lots of new npcs/characters/bosses so it's worthy of the copyright tag

Updated

If we're not making tags for any other DLC, why should this one be different? It's not a separate game, it's additional content of the same game. Most DLCs of any substance feature new characters and enemies, and I could describe any of the previous FromSoft DLCs as "notably large".

I don't like the precedent this sets for copyright tags.

No, it's not worthy of a separate copyright tag at all. While for gaming purposes the DLC is supposedly about the value (and even the price) of a full game, it is still for all intents and purposes simply an expansion to the base game's content. Everything in Shadow of the Erdtree is still Elden Ring; it's not substantially different from the base copyright to warrant a subcopyright tag at all.

I haven't played FF14 but I'm surprised those don't have tags

my understanding of tags in general is for search-ability and for fans to find a way to filter their interests. for any set of parent/child copyright tags (i.e. "child" copyright tags that implies a "parent"; e.g. sequels, spinoffs usually), by the child copyright tag merely existing and having their own set of unique characters/designs that tag has value for fans of the parent copyright. e.g. someone interested in searching stuff exclusive to Pokemon Platinum doesn't have to search Pokemon DPPt + a bunch of tags for things exclusive to Platinum - they can just search Platinum

I get why DLCs aren't treated the same as sequels, spinoffs, etc.. I don't disagree in a gaming sense they're part of the same product copyright rather than a uniquely different copyright like even sequels/spinoffs with only a few minor additions are. but for danbooru purposes I still wouldn't mind treating larger DLCs with a fair bit of unique content as valid child copyright tags since fans ultimately see them as a Significant Unique Thing like Pokemon Platinum / Pokemon Emerald that might have value as filters for browsing on danbooru

but it's not like I don't see any harm at all because the slippery slope is defining what DLCs count as "large/significant enough" and that can probably be a headache a lot of the time. this isn't a hill I'll die on or anything for that reason. ultimately I'm kind of curious what evazion or nnt thinks even if I guess they disagree w/ me here

The Splatoon series uses subtags for its DLC: Splatoon 2: Octo Expansion and Splatoon 3: Side Order. In Splatoon, the DLC modes are fairly removed from the entire rest of the game in terms of visuals, character design and story. Posts referencing them would be a chore to find otherwise, so if the same holds true for Elden Ring, then I have no objections with its DLC getting a copyright subtag.

That being said, if the Elden Ring DLC is not particularly different from the original release and is essentially just "more base game", then I don't see a reason to give it a tag. It would be absurd to tag, say, the DLC courses from Mario Kart differently when they all just blend in together.

Though that doesn't all apply here. It wouldn't be unreasonable to tag SotE while it's new, for the sake of those seeking or avoiding it, and deprecating it in a year or more. (Hello from the past, if that ends up happening.) But I'm not gonna be the one to go through the past few months of elden ring posts.
