It's an iconic outfit, but would it be correct tagging to use huttslayer_leia_(cosplay) or huttslayer_leia + princess_leia_(cosplay)?

Per our usual tagging standards I believe it would be huttslayer_leia_(cosplay). I'm surprised this isn't a tag already.
BUR #28696 has been approved by @nonamethanks.
create implication huttslayer_leia -> princess_leia
create alias slave_leia -> huttslayer_leia
Wrote a quick wiki entry.
Slave Leia seems like a sensible alias since that's a widely known name. It's also called the "dancing-girl costume" according to wookiepedia but that's too generic to be a useful utility alias in my eyes.

I don't see why this costume should have its own cosplay tag when that's not generally how costume tags are handled. Yes it's a popular costume, but it's nowhere near the level of Mash Kyrielight (Dangerous Beast) to warrant having a separate cosplay tag from main tag.
And as a side note, if this tag is going to be a thing then should we start making Star Wars outfit tags in general? A lot of the major characters have multiple outfits throughout the films, which have received official names through the video games (including the Lego Star Wars games and EA's Battlefronts) and visual encyclopedias.

I was under the impression that creating separate cosplay tags for specific costumes is merely a best practice that's not always applied. Is there a threshhold for popularity a costume should have to dedicate cosplay tags to it? Using the character you picked out as an example, there are two other Mash Kyrielight cosplay tags that have 7 and 9 posts respectively: mash kyrielight (senpai killer outfit) (cosplay) and mash kyrielight (swimsuit of perpetual summer) (cosplay).
Given that the majority of cosplay tags for Princess Leia are for this specific outfit, I think it makes sense for it to have its own tag.

No way, creating cosplay tags for every outfit is a horrible idea. It's a practice that should ideally almost never be applied. All it does is overcomplicate tagging and searching. Dangerous Beast is an exception. Individual outfits rarely get so many posts that there's an actual benefit to being separate from the character's main cosplay tag.
In this case, it shouldn't be needed, because princess_leia_(cosplay) -huttslayer_leia is all that's needed to find the rest of her cosplay posts, and those amount to less than half a page.

BUR #28701 has been rejected.
mass update huttslayer_leia princess_leia_(cosplay) -> -princess_leia_(cosplay) huttslayer_leia_(cosplay)
I'm breaking out the line for updating cosplays into a separate BUR since it's a point of contention.

I get what you're saying, but I'm still not understanding why Mash Kyrielight is an exception. All of her alternate skins (that I can see at least) have cosplay tags. Are you saying this is bad, and there should only be a cosplay tag for Dangerous Beast skin, because it's exceptionally popular compared to her other costumes?

This is basically the reason I've been told why that one gets a pass, yes. I'd never even seen the other costume cosplay tags before this thread
Interesting. I did look up *_(cosplay) before I did the BUR and saw a few hits on costumes which didn't look particularly significant, so I didn't realize it would be controversial to include in the BUR.
Thanks for the added perspectives
The problem with separate cosplay tags for individual costumes is that they address a problem that doesn't exist, and potentially create problems for no benefit. Cases like dangerous beast are exceedingly rare. Most characters are lucky to get any cosplay posts, breaking two digits is already uncommon, and three or more digits almost never happens.
For the vast majority of cases, character_(cosplay) character_(costume) or character_(cosplay) -character_(costume) is all you need to get what you're looking for or filter out something that's notably more popular than the rest. This makes a dedicated character (costume) (cosplay) tag entirely redundant. The tag search limit doesn't factor into it either, because we're talking about saving a tag on a search that will 99% of the time return barely a single page of results. You don't need an extra tag for that.
The only way these tags could be useful is if they were made to be mutually exclusive with the base cosplay tag, at which point you've made comfortably searching all of a character's maybe 20 cosplay posts at once impossible for Members and inconvenient for everyone else.
And all of this isn't even getting into whatever mess uploaders/taggers would make out of this. The fewer tags they have to remember to add the better for everyone.
Honestly, Leia's Huttslayer outfit is just as iconic in the Western fandom as Mash's Dangerous Beast is for anime fandom. If we really wanted to be "all or nothing" about it, if Mash's halloween outfit has its own dedicated cosplay gentag, all others should. But that's just me.
I'd say we split Leia's tags off into regular and her iconic outfit and then make a dedicated cosplay tag of that since it has more entries of others cosplaying it than herself.
