Gardening fiber arts

Posted under Tags

I’m almost done with knitting, crochet, and the freshly minted naalbinding, but some images like post #3068815 elude me. Would it be reasonable to create a tag like ambiguous needle craft for cases like this where there simply isn’t enough detail to guess at what is going on?

Also, should a general knit tag be created for finished knit objects? It’s reasonable in theory, but most artworks are not detailed enough to distinguish one from another. Assuming knit until proven otherwise only goes so far as post #334523, which is an example for cable knit has sharp bends in the cables, and wider cables made up of two narrow ones side by side like crochet, but fits like a knitted garment. It might be a moot point anyways, as I am not motivated enough to go through all of the sweaters and scarves on a case by case basis.

I’m currently trying to figure out what would make good clean distinctions between rope, yarn, string, and thread. It doesn’t help that a scrap of twisted fibers could be any of those depending on context. I am thinking of calling anything used for lacemaking, stitching, or sewing thread, anything used for making rabrics yarn, and failing those anything on a spool thread and anything in a ball or skein yarn. Anything that doesn’t look fiber art related can then go kntl string and hopefully no rope edge cases appear.
