All fours with knees off ground?

Posted under Tags

I'm trying to figure out the proper way to tag posts where hands and feet are on the ground but the knees aren't, e.g. post #5175181 or post #4371791. It's not all_fours because that is for when the knees are on the ground, and it's not top-down_bottom-up because that is for when the upper body is close to the ground. squatting plus arm_support might work for some cases, but that can cover a wide variety of poses, and doesn't apply if the knees are straight.

Is this a gap in the posture tags?

I think all fours is appropriate for post #5175181, but not for post #4371791. The tag is for standing like a four-legged animal, which can be done without letting the knees touch the ground. Squatting would apply to the latter post because the position is more upright; the center of gravity is above the feet and not in front of them.

The wiki says all fours is for knees touching the ground. It's possible the wiki is just wrong, I see things like post #4167608 are tagged all fours.

Maybe the wiki should be updated. Would it be useful to have a tag to indicate specifically that the knees aren't on the ground?

The term "bear stance" also seems to be used for martial arts stances in some video games and in real martial arts, so I think "bear position" would be a more suitable tag name. I also recommend we implicate it to all fours after populating it since they are still posts the average user would expect to find when searching for all fours.

Those are both good points, I'll go with bear position.
