Also, for the "just become a builder, bro" people: oh come on, the process to be promoted is manual and how can we even expect to have our contribution recognized when there's THIS shit going in the dark for years now? There's no trust.

Your contributions will be noticed. There are promotions done regularly and is unrelated to the payment processor situation.

Chill user I know from uploading. Found their own niche, uploaded posts at their own pace, got promoted less than 24 hours ago. It takes time but if you do a lot for the site and learn it, it's possible and I don't think that difficult either unless you're competing for uploads on popular copyrights. Even if you don't upload, you can do something like tag gardening or translations.

People who may be deserving of a promotion are mostly found through statistical means, if they aren't brought by other users before that, and the admin doing this is very diligent about it. If a user hasn't been promoted yet despite major contributions, there will be a good reason.

Really now?

You are telling me that a direct transaction between my personal account and the personal account of the admin would make, let's see, Paypal, track down what this website is about? There would not be even a trace to begin with! It's a private exchange for all they know or care about.

PayPal stopped letting money flow to Albert like a decade ago, so, in a word: yes.

Okay, so I need to become a builder. Sure, no problem. But how exactly does it work? I prefer to have an understanding of what it is I'm supposed to do here.

In order to become a builder, you need to contribute to the site by either uploading a lot of good quality images or add more relevant tags to the existing ones. There are some instances where translators get promoted to Builder for their good translations. If you upload a lot of good quality images with less to no deleted images, an Admin may promote you to Contributor, which is higher than Builder; it permits you to upload images without seeking for approvals by Approvers.

Read howto:get started and howto:contribute for some general information on how to contribute. The 'meta' for the fastest way to gain Builder rank is to upload good quality posts. I recommend looking at topic #24186, and consider joining the Discord and ask any builder for their backlog. There's plenty of stuff to upload, so please don't hesitate to ask.

In addition to the above two posts, make sure you are on your best behavior. Avoid edit warring, communicate if you have a tagging dispute, and take other users' advice into consideration.

You should expect to make some mistakes from time to time, but as long as they're minor and you show you can learn from them, they shouldn't affect your progress too much. Bonus points if you clean up after yourself.

Be patient and don't ask the staff if you're ready for Builder status. They will promote you when they see you are able to consistently provide positive contributions. Even if you contribute several hours each day, you should still expect it to take at least a couple months. However, even if you can only contribute a little each day, you should get promoted eventually.

Is it possible to lose the Builder status if I stop uploading after getting it?

Can I have the link to the server?

Once you become a builder or contributor, you don't lose that status unless you break site rules. Relevant: forum #253155

Click on the Discord icon on any page's footer (the very bottom of the page); that'll lead you to the Discord.

Man, I wished I bought Gold earlier before payment processors started locking creators out for providing adult content.

As a compromise, why not provide Member accounts additional privileges? Why not allow us to search using 3 tags instead of 2? That way we won't "strain" the hardware and it may tide the amount of people complaining about not being able to search with more than 2 tags.

Give Free Members a slightly higher page limit (1250), 12 Groups, and 300 Saved Searches. Tide us over until we can finally send the admins the money they deserve.

If you want to avoid the increased "server strain" from it, have it as an automatic promotion for active accounts that login, say, once a week for a year. That way people won't be signing up *just* to take advantage of it.

Crypto is the most obvious way to go, but crypto also has its own pitfalls, especially if you try to use the mainstream forms of it and banks requiring "Know Your Customer" checkups.

I see this advice given out a few times and understand it's being written in good faith. However, expecting people to contribute several hours a day for months to get additional features is a bit much. Most people aren't shut ins who can dedicate that much of their life to a hobby.

Even just adding a graduated permission list like zerochan would be nice. Like if you get 100 approved images you can now search 3 things. Or if you get 1000 good quality tags you get more page results.

While I can't waste hours of my day for months for site features. I could incrementally slowly hit 1000 good tags or a few 100 approved uploads over time. Knowing the reward is guaranteed is also motivating.

I dont know why common sense approaches like this fall on deaf ears.

You don't need to spend several hours each day for months. Yes, spending more time each day will help you reach it faster, but it's still possible to reach Builder status in about a year or less just by spending a few minutes each day making consistently good tag edits.

I'm not against the idea of in-between levels. We could make it so Gold is reachable through merit like Builder, but with lower requirements. However, we have to be smart about it. If too many users get these perks because they are too easy to earn, it could result in an unsustainable increase in use of site resources. And once we implement a feature, removing it could result in serious blowback from the userbase. So we'd need to make sure any new levels are ones we'd actually want to keep even after Gold payments are restored.

I think something like that could work, but I don't know how much time the site owner has to spare on that. Any changes of that nature are ultimately up to him, and this is something that would require some time commitment to plan out.

What can anybody do?

Tag commentary_request and translation_request where appropriate
You'd be amazed at how many images are missing these two tags

Extremely simple to do while you're browsing.

You can also add commentary to posts with original commentary completely in English, but only tagged with English commentary. I've been seeing those a lot lately.

This is everything I would have said.

With respect to the "become a builder" topic, I happen to know japanese; if I take charge of a great amount of "translation request" posts, help with adding tags and upload some images myself, it could be possible to get a "builder" status eventually? Beforehand, thank you.
