Aliasing away Gigantamax_(other)

Posted under Tags

BUR #25718 has been rejected.

create alias gigantamax_(other) -> gigantamax
remove alias gigantamax_(other) -> gigantamax
deprecate gigantamax_(other)

Do we really need a tag for non-canon gigantamax forms?

When appropriate parody + Gigantamax can be used. post #3661164 post #6633666
When appropriate giantess + Gigantamax can be used. post #3709438

Real deciding factor for me is if images like post #4142682 should be fakemon or not. I'd assume so based on how we treat fan-evolutions, but even then pokemon_name + gigantamax is still a better solution.

I noticed this tag earlier and was considering bringing this up. I don't really have an opinion on keeping the tag around or not, but for sure it needs a different qualifier at the bare minimum. (Other) is terrible for telling anyone what it's supposed to be for.

I think the biggest problem I have is that gigantamax already catches stuff like post #4595605 post #7361595 post #3705828 and whatnot. If the base tag already has that leeway gigantamax_(other) just feels like a mishmash tag that doesn't need to exist.

What about fan-created gigantamax forms of actual pokemon? Or alternate gigantamax forms?

I'm a little confused because that's what that post above is. It's a fan-made gigantamax of arbok so fakemon + arbok +gigantmax are all three relevant tags, though I would presume pokemon name + gigatamax would be what is most likely to be searched by people looking for a specific pokemon design.

It's similar to mega_pokemon fakemon which is currently only populated by fake forms of real pokemon post #5760175 for instance is a real Pokemon weavile but it has the fakemon tag because it's not actually a pokemon that can mega evolve so this is a fan design.

Are these mistags for fakemon?

I assumed you meant fakemon as in a unofficial pokemon.

Lemme clarify. gigantamax (other) covers the following three cases:

  • gigantamax forms of real pokemon without gigantamax form (like your Arbok example)
  • alternate gigantamax forms of existing pokemon
  • gigantamax forms of original fakemon

fakemon means an original pokemon. TBH I would not tag that arbok as fakemon, but if we say that alternate gigantamax pokemon count as fakemon in all three of those cases then gigantamax (other) should end up aliased to fakemon instead, which is a pretty weird decision.

Weird decision indeed, that would also end up with giantess fetish art like post #3709438 and parody art like post #3664206 being aliased to fakemon which is clearly erroneous.

I agree fakemon is an odd grouping for off-shoot designs would it instead be worth grouping things like fan mega/regional forms, gigantamax/ect as something like speculative pokemon form instead?

Then you'd end up with fan evolutions, mega pokemon, gigantamax etc all in one tag without being able to filter down any of them.

That first post is actually mistagged; it's not Gigantamax. There's two variants of the "turn really big" gimmick in SwSh: Gigantamax, which is when they change form, and Dynamax, when they do not. As an example, post #5176018 is Gigantamax Toxtricity, while post #5185769 is just a Dynamaxed Toxtricity.

Not sure how much this helps, but I figured it'd be best to clear up any confusion regardless.
