create alias e-sports -> esports
"esports" is the correct term. "e-sports" and "eSports" are common spellings so it's both a meme and a bit of a sore spot in the community.

Why is this even a tag? And with no wiki?
Why is post #2792861 tagged with it? What is this tag even for?

Comments explain it, but it's referencing the fact that at a fighting tournament that was being broadcast live a guy had to change his character skin to comply with TV standards, was a big deal actually I remember it. Anyway, the post does directly reference e-sports.
That being said it already has the EVO tag so I find it redundant, most of the posts in the tag currently seem to be overwatch girls wearing team jerseys and the only one actually showing an event is post #3325442. I wouldn't mind having the specific teams tagged instead similar to how we handle traditional sports teams.
I added some more posts to esports that I felt were missing the tag. A couple different things happening in this tag:
- Posts referencing fictional esports organizations or tournaments (post #3325442)
- Posts referencing real life esports players (post #4761336) or events (post #5442281)
- Posts referencing depicting in-game cosmetics made for esports teams (post #3201137)
It might be a good idea to clarify a few things about the tag:
Should esports be used for depictions of real life esports players when they're out of uniform and not playing the game? post #6214276
Should esports be used when a character is wearing an esports team's merchandise? post #2495698
Should esports be used for in-game skins created for esports teams? post #3201139
Personally, I would say "yes" to the first two and "probably yes" to the third one, for simplicity's sake

The organization changed their name back in 2019.

I'd vote no for both of these and maintain it'd just be the team tagged based on other sports see post #5224596 which doesn't have ice_hockey tagged, post #6593622 which isn't tagged with basketball, or post #3269743 which isn't tagged with American Football.

This makes sense. My only issue here is that I think "I want to see anime girls wearing (e)sports merchandise" is a reasonable enough ask that there should be some kind of tag for it, like a tag for branded sports team merchandise or something.

Other sports have stuff like basketball jersey maybe esports could have a comparable thing? Esports Uniform?
The problem with a "uniform" tag is that most of the posts that this would apply to aren't uniforms (although the term is more broad in esports than in traditional sports.) Like post #2495698 is a branded hoodie, or post #4926906 which is a t-shirt.
Esports apparel or, less old-fashioned, esports clothing? I would prefer the term "merchandise", but that could be too easily confused with other merch like posters etc. if they ever pop up on Danbooru.
Good rename. It's been the name of the Wikipedia article for quite some time now, after originally being a divisive topic.
Regarding when to use the tag, I think it has similar use to virtual youtuber. One of those contextual tags that don't inherently mean anything visual, but will make you expect a number of common elements, themes, and character archetypes.
I like it. So, something like this?
esports apparel favgroup #31306 for posts containing esports-related clothing
esports cosmetic favgroup #31307 for posts containing official or unofficial alternate costumes based on esports teams

So together it would be
esports: Depictions of esports players (post #4761336), references to esports events (post #5574220), depictions of real-life esports events (post #2789778)
esports apparel: Esports team-branded clothing including official uniforms (post #2490840) and fan merchandise (post #5724412)
esports cosmetic: Depictions of official (post #3465434) or unofficial (post #3333307) in-game cosmetics
Does this cover all bases?
