Reworking turtleneck tags (deprecations, implications)

Starting this topic off with the big one. This tag is largely useless, sleeveless turtleneck doesn't tell us what kind of garment it is, just that there's a sleeveless garment with a turtleneck. To make matters worse it's largely being used in place of using the corresponding turtleneck_* and sleeveless_* garment tags - out of 11,436 posts, 8,248 of them are missing the corresponding turtleneck garment tag and 9,537 of them are missing the corresponding sleeveless garment tag.

These are tandem tags. We don't tag plaid frilled bow for example so we shouldn't have these.

If staff decides that this level of granularity is useful in the case of sleeveless turtleneck garments, then someone would have to populate these tags and every other possible garment tag and then implicate them. In the case of sleeveless turtleneck bodysuit this would mean implicating to sleeveless bodysuit, turtleneck bodysuit, and sleeveless turtleneck. I don't think we want to start this precedent as it'll probably give some overzealous users the idea to start making more and more tandem tags.

And now the easy one. Turtleneck garment tags that aren't implicated to the main turtleneck tag or the corresponding garment tag. The swimsuit one is also being renamed to match the other one-piece swimsuit tags

I’ve never been a fan of this tag, for all the reasons you mentioned. It’s a padding compound tag that only describes half of either concept it’s meant to substitute, and encourages lazy tagging.

Shouldn't those that you deprecated get updated to possess their solo items? i.e, update sleeveless turtleneck leotard -> +sleeveless +turtleneck +leotard?

Wholeheartedly agree with all these BURs. sleeveless_turtleneck is pure garbage, its subtags even more so.

I was about to approve this, but I just realized we don't actually have sleeveless leotard, nor sleeved leotard. One of these tags is needed in order for this to be approvable.

I think probably sleeved leotard makes the most sense given that it's the rarer case, but someone has to populate it.

Turtleneck as a tag feels similar to hoodie for me. Turtleneck's wiki emphasizes that it's a "garment, usually a sweater, with a high collar that covers the neck," but when compared to high collar's wiki, that's functionally means that turtleneck is used as a synonym for high collar on Danbooru (just closer-fitting), ignoring the far more narrower use the name has in real life. Turtleneck sweater is closer to turtleneck's actual use in reality, akin to how hooded sweater is more reflective of hoodie's use in reality.

Most folks aren't going to say 'turtleneck' for non-sweaters, but high collar instead, in contrast to how 'hoodie' has at least become more universal in use for tops.
