First of all thanks to damian for pointing out I made a typo, my bad.

Missing copyright suffix. Jack frost is a mythological figure, the megami tensei take on the character is featured a lot and tagged just as jack_frost.

Also while tons of characters use the correct suffix there is also a bunch, mostly one off post characters, tagged to abbreviations or specific installments.

BUR #24208 has been rejected.

Or if the shin variation is sufficiently different (I know fuck all about the franchise). Jack frost apparently existed in the og books.

When I read the forum name, I thought this is Jack frost from that America cartoon. Yeah, we really need to put copyright into this name

There's probably a fair amount of demons like this, but I should point out Setanta has no qualifier and probably should. I noticed it when I posted art of him the other week. Same with Rakshasa.

I agree that demons which appear in Megaten games should have a generic series qualifier, and that the qualifiers should be either spelled out or abbreviated "mt"/"smt" consistently, but I disagree with human characters having their qualifiers simplified away from ones that are specific to the games they appear in.

Take post #5789647. Right now, except for aleph (megami tensei) (who IMO should be tagged "aleph_(shin_megami_tensei_ii)") and demi-fiend, you can tell which games the characters are from just by looking at their tags. If these BURs go through, that information vanishes. It could, in theory, be replaced by wiki entries or notes labeling the characters on this and similar posts, but it would still take more effort to find where they're from.

And for what purpose, exactly? Any demon that appears only in a single Megaten game might conceivably be brought back out for an upcoming entry in the series, but I doubt that's going to be done with Aleph or Kazuya, except maybe as a cameo appearance where IMO it still makes sense for them to be tagged with their game of origin.

I think stephen_(shin_megami_tensei), who appears in six of the SMT games, is the only human (sometimes) character deserving of being treated like the demons are. Ironically his two pieces of art are deleted.

For the Fire Emblem series, characters which only appear in games for their own unique continent/game still use the generic _(fire_emblem) qualifier.

only time more specific game qualifiers are used are for cases like Arthur (fire emblem: genealogy of the holy war) / Arthur where it's two Fire Emblem characters with the same name

same goes for Pokemon franchise characters and other anthology series

I don't think Megaten characters need to have a more specific qualifier really

It's Cu Chulainn's given name in mythology, not just in Megami Tensei, so imo it should also be qualified. Raksasha is a type of demon in Hindu mythology, so yes same reason applies there too.

I just found post #1037367 which has a ton of demons commonly used throughout the franchise

while many are technically unique names here, I'm pretty sure they're all mythological references in some way. I think they should all have the megaten qualifier

honestly Megaten demons/persona should probably get a "species" general tag like pokemon (creature), to help people who want to find them

Persona (summon) exists but is barely populated and I think it's meant for unique Personas to Party members/named characters in that sub-series anyways

klorpa has been manually renaming a lot of unqualified Megami Tensei demon tags to have qualifiers, but he failed with this tag due to having banned posts under it. This is intended to resolve that.

We should really standardize these qualifiers. Any reason to have _(megami_tensei) over _(smt)? The latter is also preferable over _(shin_megami_tensei).
