i keep thinking "oh, we'll just group all the different varieties of hats (e.g. fur hats, boater hats) into one big [colored]_hat tag"... but that would just be almost the exact same thing we have now.

The problem is that "headwear" is not "hats and other hat-like things". It's become "anything worn on the head". Look at *_headwear (headband or hairband or nun) solo -hat -visor_cap -crown for example. It's being used for absolutely anything resting on the head, including veils, hairbands, headbands, even hair ornaments (post #7070048, post #6083065) or fake horns/animal ears. black hat etc would still be very broad, but it would at least be for hat or hat-like objects, unlike the current mess. These tags are so broad that they are completely useless.

I'm going to approve this after I've had the time to go through it and see if there's any other weird cases that need to be excluded.

BUR #24488 has been rejected.

remove alias print_hat -> print_headwear
create implication print_hat -> hat
deprecate print_headwear
deprecate two-tone_headwear
remove alias vertical-striped_hat -> vertical-striped_headwear
deprecate vertical-striped_headwear
deprecate diagonal-striped_headwear
deprecate frilled_headwear
remove alias fur-trimmed_hat -> fur-trimmed_headwear
create implication fur-trimmed_hat -> hat
deprecate fur-trimmed_headwear

If BUR #21928 was successfully approved recently, then I think these are some missing deprecations. Better separating them into *_hat and *_helmet for now.

Worth noting we still have some patterned legwear tags as well. Multicolored legwear, plaid legwear, american_flag_legwear, .shiny legwear, ect. Perhaps less common ones were overlooked in both cases? Or perhaps someone figured that there was no need to make less common patterns harder to search?

+1 on deprecating all cases of *wear clothing tags though if we have the main grouping (headwear, legwear) already dead.

For consistency with the rest of obsolete headwear colours and patterns tags. And please reconsider BUR #24488 into moderation.

Don't do a deprecation at the same time as implication/alias removal. These tags are empty, they need to be populated and their former parent tags need a deprecation wiki first.
