Difference between British and American English
I was just about to make a BUR with this exact issue before finding this lol. Summarizing what I was about to write, I as an American have never heard of them being called lifebuoys, and buoy implies something completely different and unrelated to the british definitions of the word. All it refers to are the floaty objects marking positions in bodies of water. This made it pretty hard to find the right tag given the number of results for "life*". To figure out our tag I actually had to google other names for life preservers and try searching for them on Danbooru. Aliasing them would be very helpful and prevent headaches.

Might want to qualify life preserver, since in US English it can mean both the ring type or the jacket/vest type.
I only really hear "life jacket" used for the jackets/vests, never "life preserver". I don't believe it should be an issue. We already have life_vest, so maybe it'd be better to alias life_jacket -> life_vest.

create alias life_jacket -> life_vest
agree with above. it's a very common name and someone might not be able to think of "vest"
