"Self Character Print" - Wearing clothing with a picture of yourself on it

Brought up the need for this tag in forum #253189, and no one seemed to know of an existing tag for the concept but at least one user agreed that we should have one.

I tentatively created self character print. Now I'm invoking Cunningham's Law (?) to see if it should be called something else, or even already exists (although if that's the case, it probably also should be called something else), or can be replicated with some other tag combination.

Perhaps a broader self_character_merchandise tag to more broadly have characters possessing merchandise of themselves, things like figures, keychains, posters, etc?

That's roughly what meta is for, though it seems like not a lot of people know about it.

The problem with that is that it doesn't really apply then when said character isn't purely fictional, so a vtuber or other real life person with their own merch depicting themselves wouldn't fall under the tag.

Well, there are a handful of examples under meta vtuber already, and I don't think anyone would mind if we applied meta to them. Otherwise we'd have to have meta and meta, but for "real" people, two functionally identical tags divided only by semantics.

So does this mean we don't want this tag? Or just that it shouldn't implicate character print, for some reason?

The problem is that self character print isn't broad enough for things like a character holding their own merch, so we still need another tag for that. Meta seems to be that tag, but it's very non-obvious.

The meta tag really is just a poor substitute. Using it for those depictions just makes the bad assumption that characters who are idols, singers, actors, etc with merchandise depicting themselves is automatically a meta reference to their series and that it could never simply be part of their normal career within series.
