Disambiguate Cross of Saint Andrew (BDSM)

rename cross_of_saint_andrew -> x-cross_(bdsm)

According to Wikipedia, Saint Andrew's Cross is just an alternate name of saltire.
Meanwhile X-cross (BDSM) is a correct term that describes Saltire-shaped BDSM equipment.

The reason is that most people know such furniture by its overall X shape instead of religious figure's name. And this renaming request is done to prevent tag misuse by some users, to refer completely SFW images of saltires (something like Scottish flag).

I wonder if you would prefer alias instead of renaming it. Once again, tagging should not be a hard, extensive vocabulary check for many users.

Cross of Saint Andrew is still used in religious contexts. If there is an alternative name for the fetish equipment I'd prefer it to be renamed to that so the Saint Andrew cross ta can be used for art inspired by Christian iconography.

Maybe if you're Christian. Anyway, scandalous or not, it is a common name for the device (see the Wikipedia article linked upthread).

i'm rather of the position that it's not even necessary to directly separate the two things if it's exactly the same device.
since the only difference is bdsm as i understand it, then they already can just be separated with that tag, not to mention how i can see someone somewhere drawing something that would have a bdsm fetish in it, but with christian iconography.

Hmm, I kind of agree with Mayhem-chan here, you can search for SFW-ish posts by filtering the rating or BDSM. Otherwise, I agree with The Bob about an utility alias.

BDSM is not the only difference though, presently in modern Christian contexts it's manly found as a symbol in churches. For example or decorative displays. These aren't functional torture devices.

Currently it seems we only have bdsm related posts under the tag so I don't mind a st._andrew's_cross_(bdsm) alias, but the two concepts should be clearly separated.

Understandable, but wouldn't your first example just fall under saltire? judging by wikis

First one would, yes. Main point is that if there is overlap in the terminology it at the very least needs a (bdsm) qualifier. The term by itself is ambiguous.
