create alias matching_outfit -> matching_outfits
By definition, there must be more than one outfit for this tag to apply. As such, it makes no sense to use the singular form.

Matching outfits is currently used for two things, that, should be separated like most other legacy tags.
matching outfit's wiki
This can be used when a character is wearing an alternate costume meant to match with the canonical outfit of another character present.
Thus it may be used when a single character is present and wearing a fanmade outfit that matches a known canon outfit. Cause we don’t have another tag for this concept. I suggest we move those to a new made-up matching outfit or smth.

It can't be used for solo images, that's just mistags. And wouldn't that just be character_(cosplay)?
No, there’re often fan costumes designed based on elements of a canon one, but that’s not cosplay.
E: Like in post #5851281, the four on the sides are official outfits, Miku's in the middle is a made-up one, but it’s undoubtedly made to match the style of the other four.

That would need a separate tag then in my opinion. When I search for matching outfit(s) I expect to see two or more people wearing matching outfits, not one person wearing an outfit matching that of someone not present in the image.

That’s what I've been thinking for a long while, plus it’s still almost impossible to look for that concept if we keep them in the same tag. But I couldn’t find a good name for it, we can probably start with made-up matching outfit.

+1, but maybe unofficial matching outfit? not a fan of “made up” in a tag name.

I considered it, but I’m not sure how we feel about using the term "unofficial".

matching alternate outfit? though to be honest i personally don't see any need to have a tag for this specifically, matching outfit is enough
