Translation Request: The Tag

BUR #16076 has been rejected.

create alias translation_request -> untranslated_text

It'd be nice to have a tag for untranslated, non-english text. In theory that's translation request, but it doesn't always get added if the tagger isn't interested in what the image says (I'm guilty of this too). A new name might help: you see non-english text without a translation note, you slap "untranslated text" on it, same as tagging anything else.

It's a old tag, but an alias shouldn't hinder tagging habits. However it's a lot of posts to change for a minor rename.

I like this idea and would find it more useful. I used to use other boorus that had a set japanese text tag i used to use all the time for when text was present but I wasn't interested it what it said or it seemed minor. It just seems like it clutters up actual things people would like to see translated. The name for its intended use doesn't convey that it's supposed to be encompassing.

I'm in favor of changing it to untranslated text and then creating a translation request pool for high priority untranslated posts.

I can't imagine a pool would fare any better than what we're doing right now. Most users just treat pools as dumping grounds for whatever, a "translation request pool" would just inevitably be as bloated as the tag is, assuming people even remembered to add posts to it. What would be stopping any one user from just adding every single untranslated post on the site to it? Are we gonna tell them they can't do that and try to enforce some sort of arbitrary limit on what can be added to it?

topic #7805 already serves this function, without having to worry about trusting users not to ruin it like they do most tags and pools. The biggest issue with it is it being impossible to find if you don't already know it exists. Come to think of it, why doesn't translation request have a link to it?
