There’re people who advocate replacing "chinese new year" with "lunar new year" to deny that it originated from ancient china. I don’t know why. But I prefer we don’t step into that dumb mess.

Um...no? I am a Vietnamese native and I never once deny that the festival came from China. If anything, there are people who want to abolish the festival instead...

Lunar is not a more correct name either, the festival is based on a lunisolar calendar

The Gregorian calendar is seen as the "sun calendar" here. It is just a misnomer that stucks.

The Chinese New Year should not be aliased to Lunar New Year. Chinese New Year is the more accurate and correct term.
It would be like calling the Gregorian New Year Solar New Year. Yes, it is a solar new year, but there are other solar new years besides it. There is an utility in aliasing it the other way around, since there are no posts about other types of lunar new years anywhere, but this would just be nonsensical.

I just remembered that the sea that we called "Biển Đông" (East Sea) is called South China Sea in 英語 anyway...
