The bulk update request #12140 (forum #220718) has been approved by @nonamethanks.
Incidentally, are these officially allowed or not? Two known AI-generated posts (post #5557448, post #5540274) were rejected from the mod queue for breaking the rules, but there are now dozens of posts under this tag, and nearly all of them were apparently mistaken for hand-drawn work.
It's not forbidden, no. But it still has to be up to our standards, and more often than not it gives too many uncanny valley vibes. We're still at the stage where it can be immediately recognized on superficial inspection, because of all the artifacts and weird shit the current models try to add to pictures. post #5557448 for example is full of weird compression-like artifacts that would only happen naturally if you deep-fried a picture on pinterest. post #5540274 has weird eyes and hands, and really weird smudges in the shoulder, all things that immediately catch the attention of the viewer more than the picture itself. It's something you'd call good only because it was generated by a computer.
It doesn't make much sense for us to straight out forbid this kind of content given the speed at which the field is improving, and given that artists are already making hybrid AI-assisted art, and given that it's impossible to tell whether something is "fully" ai-generated or just ai-assisted unless the artist says so.
Examples of what our future looks like:
It had seemed that some approvers were in favor of dumping AI art outright, but pictures like post #5197631 are definitely hard to distinguish from a real artist. I flagged a few of the less plausible images to test the waters on our quality standards as they apply to this type of art.
BTW I created ai-assisted to tag posts that are retouched by the artist after having been generated via AI.

I strongly dislike the idea of allowing 100% AI-generated art on the site, even if it's good enough. The entire decade and a half of Danbooru's existence until now has been dedicated to cataloguing years of manmade anime history; allowing AI art (even if it passes quality standards) spits in the face of this progress. It also opens two metaphorical Pandora's Boxes - uploaders may adopt a similar mentality to self-uploaders in this respect, being less able to judge the quality of AI art because they "made" it. Also, when someone creates an AI capable of making anime art that often passes our quality standards, users will be free to generate and upload it en mass. I can easily see this overtaking human-created art if it becomes prevalent enough, with more and more uploaders jumping on the bandwagon of infinite, instantly available uploads.
I have no issues with ai-assisted art - it's being used by humans as a tool, similar to 3D posing software or even a wooden posing doll. I also have no issue with purely AI-generated art in general. However, it doesn't belong on Danbooru. If people want a curated gallery of AI art, then they should consider making an AIbooru.

If it's so good that it's not distinguishable from human art (or better), who cares who made it? But anyway I'd wait till this actually becomes a problem before getting worried about it.
I added ai-generated to the list of "borderline content" on the upload rules. This means it's not hard banned, but you should probably be careful about uploading it and not intentionally flood it.
I'm reluctant to hard ban it because it's not a problem right now and in the long term we don't know how this is going to pan out.
