I would like to discuss the usefulness of the uncensored tag.

Most of the time censoring is easy to identify and can be tagged without doubt. In contrast the uncensored tag violates the "tag what you see" principle. It can be hard to determine if a post is explicit enough that some country's law would require censoring. It is information not contained within the image and therefore is very subjective to the viewer. Furthermore it is unnecessary to have tags with polar opposite meaning.

From a user perspective, I think, it is preferable to search for something (e.g. a body part) and exclude censored content. As said before, it is easier to add the censored tag where it applies and correct the false positives in a search result, than find and amend the post that might warrant the uncensored tag.

Removing the uncensored tag makes it necessary to distinguish between sexual and non-sexual censoring. Maybe censored could be used for artificial obstruction of sexual content only and the implication from identity_censor, fake_censor, censored_text and censored_gesture could be removed? Like there is convenient_censoring (not implying censored), the non-sexual censoring tags could stand alone or get an umbrella tag of their own.

Most japanese porn is censored by law, so it's necessary to have a tag for the exception in a site like this that is primarly focused on japanese content.

Also, your argument doesn't make much sense. Would you consider no humans to violate "tag what you see"? We assume our users have basic object permanence and can tell when something is not in the picture.

Looking at ~pussy ~penis -censored and excluding the posts that are censored but missing the tag. Shouldn't almost all of them have the uncensored tag or is there a rule which should and which should not?

If they all warrant the tag it is not very useful because I can just exclude censored as I did. Also the uncensored tag is present on less than 44% of the posts of that particular search.

If they don't it is hard to decide which do. I'm not familiar with the Japanese law on censoring. I can clearly tell when there are no_humans but can't tell what the verdict of a Japanese court on that matter would be.

I kind of see why the tag exists, but it was never useful to me and I usually don't tag or search it because there are better ways of finding what I'm looking for.

uncensored tends to be searched roughly 1,000 times a day and consistently appears on the top searches list. It's useful to many people.

The wiki for the tag specifically states what kind of content it should be used for - explicit depictions of genitals, sex acts, or bodily fluids. It's this content (usually genitals in particular) that Japanese artists will normally censor in accordance with the law.

There are a lot of people who simply neglect to tag either censored or uncensored on their posts, which means that - as you already mentioned - trying to search for one tag by excluding the other will return numerous false positives. That makes the search less effective for non-registered users who can't (or don't want to) go around manually cleaning the results. We have to work around the fact that our taggers are never going to be completely perfect.

Don't trust the "top searches" page, it's heavily sampled and only shows a very small percentage of the actual numbers.

Our analytics collection is incomplete right now but I see at least 15k searches for "uncensored" in the last 24 hours.
