Redundant tags, even after reading the wiki of each tag

open fly: When the fly (crotch) of a character's pants or shorts is unzipped or unbuttoned.
open pants: Pants with an open fly.
open_shorts: Shorts with an open fly.

the "open fly" tag covers all possible alternatives, no matter if it is shorts or pants, unbuttoned or unzipped.
even open_fly tag already has an aliased other alternative tag (unbuttoned_pants)
I can't think of any other way where a shorts or pants can be opened without opening from the front.
and before they say that tearing a pants could be considered an "open pants", in those situations torn_clothes could be used instead.

Open_pants and open_shorts both seem mildly ambiguous to me. To a user who doesn't read the wiki—and most never do—it's not a stretch to think that these tags could be used for openings in places other than the fly.

These tags have both been used for cutouts and open zippers exposing the ass (post #3003667, post #3618809, both explicit) as well as for hip vents and cutouts in other places (post #3068592, post #3129708, post #4823278). None of this inspires me with confidence that open_fly wouldn't be misused if these aliases went into effect.

On the other hand, the thing that really troubles me about these tags is the number of users who use open_pants like they have no idea what pants are. There is no excuse for the number of posts tagged open_pants shorts solo. This alone is enough to make me question the existing implication to pants.

I'd be more in favor of deprecating both tags than aliasing them.

in that case, the problem would be what the wiki page says about Open_pants and Open_shorts tags, and not the tags themselves.
due in both wikis (as I mentioned in the first post) they say exclusively pants/shorts"with an open fly." which would be redundant with the Open_fly tag which covers all possible situations.
I think this could be fixed with a rewrite to be able to differentiate them better.
