I actually think this should be the other way round, as not all outfits are "costumes". Many are just casual clothes, sometimes casual to the point that if you were to cosplay another character in them nobody would even know because it's just jeans and a white shirt. Calling something like that a "costume" feels weird and wrong.

If we want to open that can of worms, there's also alternate_costume, official_alternate_costume, adapted_costume and embellished_costume.

I'm not really partial to either term, but I agree with the point in forum #191083 that a lot of anime characters' wardrobes would be considered kind of outlandish by real-world standards anyway, so using "costume" doesn't really bother me at all.

If we do decide to switch it up, though, we should at least be consistent about it and do the same for other tags like costume_chart and adapted_costume. Also, meme_attire should probably be changed as well; it's silly that we have an *_attire tag that doesn't show up in a *costume or *outfit search despite them basically being synonyms.
