GI's Raiden aliases

I think an umbrella tag for all versions of Raiden would be helpful, since Raiden Shogun is loosely based off of Raiden Mei.

Let's avoid cross-copyright (not part of the same series) umbrella chartags.

Last thing we need is a Raiden_(mihoyo) tag and then a complicated multi-level implication web linking all the skintags to the respective Raiden Shogun or Raiden Mei tag and THEN to Raiden_(mihoyo).

Personally, I don't 'Raiden Mei' or 'Raiden Shogun', I just see 'Raiden'.

Maybe it's too soon to request, maybe this would be something to discuss if Mihoyo releases cross-over costumes - because, if they did, I think the lines between the 2 characters would shatter completely. What is 'Raiden_Shogun' visually but a 'Raiden' outfit exclusive to Genshin Impact.

I wouldn't propose a 'Raiden_(mihoyo)' tag, but a 'Raiden' tag.

It really doesn't matter if one is "loosely based off" the other, or if they have similar appearances. They're different characters from different games, it wouldn't make any sense to treat them like a same character. And it would have to be Raiden (Mihoyo) because we already have several Raiden's

This (umbrella-tagging characters inspired by each other with similar designs by the same author/company) also opens a gigantic can of worms for reused/similar character designs like Tezuka's Star System and Miyazaki's protags, Detective Conan lookalikes, and HEAVEN FORBID ALL THE SABERFACES.

Going off your example, let's say Greece had two separate mythologies for a snake-haired woman named 'Medusa'. Would those both not fall under the tag medusa (mythology)?

It would really depend. If it could be proven that they were in fact two completely different characters who happened to share a name, then they would have separate tags. I'm honestly not sure if we would make an umbrella tag for them, but my initial thought is no, because they're separate characters. If it was decided that they're just the same character, then they would most likely just share one tag.

My comment, which was a joke btw, was about all characters with snake hair, because the idea of snakes for hair is inspired by the Medusa of Greek mythology. Since it could be argued that all such characters are loosely based off Medusa (mythology), then it could be argued that they should all imply it. But that would be insane, and thus there's no way we would ever do that.

The thing with mythologies is that entities with the same names (and part of the same cultural mythology) will get conflated with each other over time, until they blur into a single entity (like a lot of the deities). That's why it's mythology.

Conversely, if they are considered different (or split into different entities), there will have different common names, or an additional place name/clan name/qualifiers/adjectives/etc. added to the base name.

So if there are somehow two different Medusas that folklorists/historians feel it is important to distinguish between, the first (our Medusa (mythology)) will be called "Medusa of Sarpedon", and the second will be called "Medusa of Insert-Whatever-Place-She-Popped-Up-In". Or the former will be called "Gorgo" because that's another one of her names.

Alright, so for the request, I'll wait to see if the lines get more blurred between the characters.

And I don't see the reason we couldn't use 'Raiden' as a tag name either. There are multiple Fuu and Mugen character tags, but Fuu and Mugen are assigned for Samurai Champloo characters.

Right now, Raiden is aliased to raiden_(metal_gear), which I think is wrong. By the end of the year, it is highly like that raiden_shogun and raiden_mei will cumulatively have 10x the amount of fanart raiden_(metal_gear) has.

Can I at least request that raiden become an alias for either raiden_mei or raiden_shogun?
