My Upload Limit?

Posted under General

Hello, I didn't want to bother the chat on Discord, so I'll just leave this question here.
From my understanding of the Upload Limit rules, I should have a limit of 12, not 11.

We start out with a count of 15, and I just got my 11th deletion. 33 overall uploads. Hoping to clear a couple at least with Appeals, but oh well, whatever. Current situation is 11/11, with 3 ongoing Appeals, and 2 pending posts. (3 + 3 + 3 + 1 +1).
With the rule saying every 3 deletions is minus 1 limit count, I thought I should have a limit of 12 (15-3). Hence, 11/12. So where does the extra minus 1 come from?

I thought I'd have to have a 12th deletion to be dropped to a limit of 11? Is it rounding up or is there some kind of algorithm that expects that one of my pending posts will be yeeted? I hope I can be helped to understand this. I brought it up in Discord chat before when I first noticed this and someone assumed it might've been a refresh time with the site to update, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Thanks.

It could be your rejected appeals counting against your upload slots. This shouldn't be happening (rejected appeals should take up upload slots [temporarily] but not decrease them [permanently]), but... see topic #17341 and issue #4603 where people have reported something similar happening.

Looks like a bug treating a rejected appeal as though as it is a deleted upload. In particular this seem to only occur for "self-appeals", where the uploader appeals their own uploads (and then gets rejected). Going with this theory, post #4593041 would be the problematic one (your other rejected appeals have different uploaders) that 'adds' another deletion to your total, bumping it up to 12 and resulting in an overall -4 to your quota.

@KoakumaBR has reported this exact issue happening (upload slot decreased by one immediately after a rejected appeal) 9 months ago in forum #174384, with screenshots.

Edit:
@evazion
Is this what's causing this? And if yes, is it intended behavior?

-1 upload limit per 3 deleted posts is statistically correct but misleading in practice to the reader. Since each deletion in specific removes a third or so of the 'successful posts score' and the default start is 0/15 after a single unsuccessful post the upload limit will go down to 14. So from a certain perspective the number of upload slots removed are 'rounded up' case example user #820162: 4 deleted posts yet 2 slots removed. Fortunately it's not hard to recover from this as you can see he still sits at 6/10 to the respective next level

Wow so it already starts -1 from the first deletion? If that is indeed intentional, I wish it specified that in the rules. That would've saved the confusion and headache. It probably shouldn't even be a thing. :/

Yes, this is a bug with failed appeals mistakenly being counted as deleted uploads. This will be fixed in the next site update.

Well, it's true that if you're a first time uploader, and your first upload gets deleted, and you don't get any other posts approved, then you'll get knocked down to 14 upload slots. But this shouldn't be common, most people will upload more than one post to start with, and you only need 3.33 approvals to cancel out 1 deletion at the starting level.
