I guess the important thing to me is... all these proposed new stuff would be completely harmless for us who don't care about this subject material, right? No slippery slope or anything, right (other than leading to more tags, but those should still be harmless)?
Pretty much yeah. They're fetish tags so you probably won't ever see them unless you're looking for them.
I think they are useful and will be used so I'll obviously deal with the creation and population. I wouldn't suggest it if I thought it would just turn into a pet tag for me.
In any case, if the consensus of this thread will be that it's a terrible idea then I'll just not create them, it's not like my life depends on it. But I don't buy the slippery slope argument. We've never had any trouble nuking useless tags (like the color wristwatch ones) whenever they surface. I don't see how it would be different in this case.
These tags literally change nothing about the site except order fetish tags. This only affects people that want to see it. They would have a way to search for what they like.

+1 on making them.
And everyone else will be able to blacklist them if they want. There's really no downside to making them.
I see only positives from making these tags, so I'd also want to help tagging as appropriate. It might seem overkill but if there's people that are already searching for furry tags, it'll be no different from other <noun>_<gender> tags we have.
Imo furry male/furry female is the inferior solution and it'll be an extreme pain in the ass to use them, but it's still better than nothing, so if that's what we decide to go with I won't complain too much.

Tbh I don't see a problem with x_on_y, but I have no problem with <noun>_<gender> either.
Everything else should be searchable by just adding hetero, yaoi, or yuri. All the "x on y" futa tags are because that's the only way to figure out who's penetrating who, which for anyone who likes futa are important distinctions. Hetero, yaoi, and yuri address that just fine for furries, because they don't inherently possess the ability to both penetrate and be penetrated.
I think the proposed tags by NNT is the better option. Especially if the tag starts with "Furry" for the autocomplete. You'll see all possible options (which should be like 3-4 tags) by just typing "Furry" and it'll be super intuitive to use aka to find or blacklist exactly what you want.
It's a much more foolproof solution and gets people to what they want or don't without much trouble.
Having male/female furry isn't only awkward to use for us non-regulars (cuz of the many female/male tags), but they will always be tagged boy/girl tags already, so they will end up being just padding in solo uploads.
I created and populated these with the help of Zapdos today. There's still probably hundreds of posts that can be added but going through old horrible deleted furry posts has burned me out for today, so I'll keep adding to them maybe later this week. At least now it's possible to avoid looking at furries on furries.
These tags were going to be created regardless of the question of this topic, so might as well get them out of the way. I'll keep mulling about the specific gender tags, though probably I'll end up making furry_male/female because I'd rather have the solution that everyone accepts rather than something only some users want.
If I read this thread correctly, awkward word order of "furry (fe)male" was chosen to force it into autocompletion for furry. Why not make furry_x_etc aliases for x_furry_etc instead?
