You can have a fish burger, a chicken burger and even a veggie burger, but the tag we currently use for burgers is hamburger, which feels wrong when it's on something like post #3982006. burger is a general term that more accurately describes what the tag should be for.

Regardless of this change, there is nothing in post #3982006 that would qualify for either the hamburger tag or burger tag though. Even if you broaden out to include non-beef burgers in naming, a burger still is a bare patty of ground meat or simulated ground meat. If the meat is breaded, then it's not a burger.

Add in the madness that "hamburger" is an American term for ground beef.

In American parlance, the words "burger" and "hamburger" have an implication of beef (or beef substitute like the Impossible Burger, which you can't tell in a visual medium anyway). If it's chicken or fish, it's just a sandwich.

I find it weird that we want to alias away hamburger (because it implies meat) when we aliased goo girl to slime girl (which implies slime)

There's also the fact that Japanese has two different borrowings of "hamburger" with different meanings"

• ハンバーガー / hanbaagaa = "hamburger" sandwich as English almost always uses it
• ハンバーグ / hanbaagu = "salisbury steak", or a hamburger patty eaten on a plate with gravy
